In an interview with SportsNet New York (SNY), Fertitta said this to Ian Begley when asked why it didn't work out between the Rockets and Anthony last season:

"You know, it's really unusual because I never really got a chance to meet Melo but all I heard is what a gentleman he was and that he was going to play whatever part or role on the team that the coaches wanted him to play. And basketball ops decided to make a decision and, you know, it kinda surprised me too, as a fan of the Houston Rockets. But I know what I know and I know what I don't know. And if my basketball ops thought that we should move on, then I sure wasn't going to tell them not to, even though I thought that Melo's one the greatest players to ever play the game."

Fertitta's interview came as part of a promotional tour for his new book, "Shut Up and Listen!", which hit bookstores this week.

Now 35 years old, Anthony has said he wants to continue playing in the NBA - and Fertitta told Begley that he still believes the future Hall of Famer is more than capable of contributing to a team.

One hundred percent. Let me tell you: there's a bunch of teams and I guarantee you if there's 150 starters for the 30 teams that Carmelo Anthony is still one of the top 150 players in the National Basketball Association.

However, Fertitta told Begley that he "would not push back" against his basketball operations staff, led by GM Daryl Morey, on that type of decision if they felt it was best.

You know, I heard how my basketball ops people handled it. You hear different stories at different times and how different things are perceived. And it's disappointing that that's the way it was. But I just don't know enough facts about exactly how it went down.

These guys are very analytical and they know that they do, this this is what they do every day. I sure wouldn't contradict them on something like that.

In 10 games with the Rockets to start last season, Anthony averaged 13.4 points (40.5% FG) and 5.4 rebounds in 29.4 minutes per game. The Rockets effectively removed Anthony from the team after the initial 10 games - during which the team went a disappointing 4-6 - but he was not formally off the roster until a trade to Chicago in January.

Three coaches on hottest seats entering 2019-20 NBA season The 2016-17 season was a rarity: No coaches got fired. Since, three coaches have gotten fired each of the last two seasons. Which three coaches are most likely to be fired during next season?Mike D’Antoni (Rockets)When D’Antoni rejected a contract extension, Rockets owner Tilman Ferttita said D’Antoni’s agent did Fertitta a favor because that’d make firing D’Antoni easier.Maybe Fertitta worded that more harshly than intended. He has also praised D’Antoni and even predicted the coach would return in 2020.But that sure sounded revealing.

Looking more and more likely that Melo will join CP3 & Harden in H-Town.

The Bulls subsequently released Anthony, and he remains a free agent in search of his next opportunity.

a couple of people that are talking to each other: Neither Kyrie Irving nor Kevin Durant was taking his talents up north, so convincing Kawhi Leonard to stay for the long run was the only shot the Toronto Raptors had of completing a successful offseason after winning the title. As the TSN Staff pointed out, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski explained in late June the Raptors made as strong a case to Leonard as possible. The club kept him healthy and rested through the start of the postseason and also did well to surround him with the necessary talent to dethrone the Golden State Warriors. Unfortunately for Toronto, it didn't work out, as the two-time NBA Finals MVP joined the Los Angeles Clippers.
