Media availability for players and Adam Silver in China cancelled

Media availability for players and Adam Silver in China cancelled The NBA will play in China, but they will not be speaking. The Los Angeles Lakers will continue their preseason schedule in just a few hours, as they are set to take on the Brooklyn Nets at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai. However, unlike your usual NBA basketball game, we will not be hearing from the participants in Thursday's preseason matchup. The NBA, according to multiple reports on the scene in Shanghai, will not speak to the media. The Chinese government cancelled both NBA Cares events scheduled for earlier this week.

Sources told ESPN that Walton criticized veterans for contributing to the Lakers ’ downfall by not playing a team game and making poor The veterans — both signed to the Lakers on one-year contracts this past offseason — countered Walton’s criticism by expressing frustration with Walton’s

The Lakers and Nets play in Shanghai on the 10th before heading to Shenzhen for a second game on the 12th. The Lakers are one of the NBA’s biggest international draws and China's state broadcaster is refusing to show the highly anticipated Lakers vs Nets game following Adam Silver's statement.

The patterns of the last few days and hours would suggest that the NBA's scheduled games between the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets in China for this week aren't going to happen. However, while Commissioner Adam Silver is trying to finesse what's become a tenuous situation with the NBA's Chinese partners following Daryl Morey's tweet of support for protestors in Hong Kong, the players for the Lakers and Nets are caught in the middle.

According to ESPN's Rachel Nichols, players on both teams are growing frustrated with the NBA putting them in a very uncomfortable situation. Also, due to several anti-NBA statements from the Chinese government, the typical fanfare that accompanied even LeBron Jr. earlier this year hasn't been around either NBA team in China.

Kyrie to miss Saturday's preseason game after aggravating facial fracture

Kyrie to miss Saturday's preseason game after aggravating facial fracture Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving will miss Saturday's preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers after aggravating a facial fracture during the previous contest, the team announced Friday. Irving played just one minute in Thursday's affair in China before Lakers guard Rajon Rondo delivered inadvertent contact to his face. The six-time All-Star initially suffered the injury during an offseason pickup game and was sporting a protective mask during his Nets debut in China.

Los Angeles Lakers head coach Luke Walton and teammates Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma discussed the team meeting that was held to air out frustrations . There’s been a growing sense that playing time, or lack thereof, and trade rumors have led to mounting frustration for some on the team.

Players were expected to report 90 minutes before game time, but both Iverson and Webber arrived around tipoff. Coach Maurice Cheeks notified the media that neither would be playing , and general Coach part is going to go on throughout the game . Playing part is not going to be what you expect.

But while logic would suggest that the game between the Nets and Lakers will not happen, it's clear that logic currently has no place in the NBA's current in China.

Also, with most star players having major shoe deals with corporations deep in the Chinese market, players such as LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis, find themselves in an especially difficult position. But in addition to that, teams were unable to use the arena where they are scheduled to play in Shanghai for practice. So the players can't speak, practice and in the case of LeBron James, fall asleep due to the time difference. It appears cabin fever is setting in for the Lakers and Nets.

Lakers clear Anthony Davis to return

Lakers clear Anthony Davis to return Davis injured the thumb in the first quarter of the Lakers’ game in Shenzhen vs. the Nets on Saturday. The injury was initially diagnosed as a sprain, which was confirmed after the team returned to Los Angeles and conducted further tests. An MRI on Monday came back clean, showing no ligament damage.Although Davis is set to return to action, the Lakers are still without another key player. Kyle Kuzma, who is recovering from a stress reaction in his left foot, has been cleared for non-contact activity, but his status for opening night next Tuesday remains up in the air.

Off-color jokes. Criticizing officiating. Lamenting a tough portion of the schedule. Lots of frustration from the Warriors. Now that it has arrived, there are signs of tension and frustration with a team trying to find a groove without Kevin Durant while in pursuit of a third straight trip to the NBA Finals.

The NBA's trip to China has made headlines for reasons that the league did not expect this year. And for the two teams involved, they've travelled all the way across the world, disrupting their sleep schedules and preseason training camp only to not be able to practice and potentially not even play.

According to reporting from Nichols, it seems like both teams want to just take the L and call it a day. But with so much money on the line in China, the league is trying to salvage the situation and the players are caught in difficult limbo, in large part due to their own business interests in China.

Irving, playing with face fracture, leaves Nets-Lakers early

Irving, playing with face fracture, leaves Nets-Lakers early SHANGHAI (AP) — Brooklyn guard Kyrie Irving left the team's preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers about one minute after tip-off after taking a hit to the face. Irving was attempting to play through a facial fracture, an injury that occurred in a pickup game last month. He was wearing a clear mask in an effort to protect his face, but appeared to bump into Lakers guard Rajon Rondo while playing defense just 1:06 into the contest. Irving's face made contact with Rondo's upper arm. The Nets guard immediately winced in pain, took the mask off and motioned to the bench that he needed a substitute. It was not immediately clear if Irving would return to the game.

LaVar Ball expressed his frustration with Luke Walton, saying the Lakers coach doesn't have control of the team and the players don't want to play Sat him down.
