Bill Plaschke: LeBron James no longer acting like a stranger to the Lakers and their fans

Bill Plaschke: LeBron James no longer acting like a stranger to the Lakers and their fans The man who once seemed blithely detached now sounds deeply engaged. "I'm very motivated, but I'm right now not in the talking-about-it mode, " James said with a steely stare. "I've been very quiet this summer for a reason. My mother always told me, don't talk about it, be about, it, so that's where I'm at." The man who once scoffed at a question about proving himself to Lakers fans answered a similar query with a pledge."I think as a team and myself, we need to get the Lakers back to where they're accustomed to over the years, so I'm excited about that, " he said.

The patterns of the last few days and hours would suggest that the NBA's scheduled games between the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets in China for this week aren't going to happen. However, while Commissioner Adam Silver is trying to finesse what's become a tenuous situation with the NBA's Chinese partners following Daryl Morey's tweet of support for protestors in Hong Kong, the players for the Lakers and Nets are caught in the middle.

According to ESPN's Rachel Nichols, players on both teams are growing frustrated with the NBA putting them in a very uncomfortable situation. Also, due to several anti-NBA statements from the Chinese government, the typical fanfare that accompanied even LeBron Jr. earlier this year hasn't been around either NBA team in China.

Lakers coach Frank Vogel confident about getting players to buy in

Lakers coach Frank Vogel confident about getting players to buy in New coach Frank Vogel believes the Lakers can be one of the NBA's best defensive teams, if the veteran-heavy squad buys in.“Listen up, while everybody catches their breath,” Vogel said. “To be an elite defense, you have to be in great shape.

But while logic would suggest that the game between the Nets and Lakers will not happen, it's clear that logic currently has no place in the NBA's current in China.

Also, with most star players having major shoe deals with corporations deep in the Chinese market, players such as LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis, find themselves in an especially difficult position. But in addition to that, teams were unable to use the arena where they are scheduled to play in Shanghai for practice. So the players can't speak, practice and in the case of LeBron James, fall asleep due to the time difference. It appears cabin fever is setting in for the Lakers and Nets.

The NBA's trip to China has made headlines for reasons that the league did not expect this year. And for the two teams involved, they've travelled all the way across the world, disrupting their sleep schedules and preseason training camp only to not be able to practice and potentially not even play.

According to reporting from Nichols, it seems like both teams want to just take the L and call it a day. But with so much money on the line in China, the league is trying to salvage the situation and the players are caught in difficult limbo, in large part due to their own business interests in China.
