Jones , though, was effusive in his praise of his coach, saying, “Our coach and our coaching staff are the No. 1 reason that I’m excited about what we have Why should he be on the hot seat ? If the Dallas Cowboys are considering the possibility of firing Jason Garrett, it is clear they are going to do everything they can to hide it.

There has been a lot of talk about Garrett again being on the hot seat (was he ever?) with the Cowboys having lost three straight games. However, Jerry Jones and the team’s brass seemingly throw their support behind the head coach every day, and Jones did that yet again when he called Garrett a “top coach” during his Tuesday appearance on 105.3 The Fan.

Of course, a team should not evaluate a head coach based on how many other teams would be interested in said coach if he were fired. The Cowboys are dealing with significant injuries on the offensive side of the ball, but there were some troubling signs that players — mainly defensive ones — may have been tuning him out toward the end of Sunday’s loss to the New York Jets.

Even if another team would love to hire Garrett, he does the Cowboys no good if he is losing his locker room. That may not be happening, but it’s certainly something that warrants attention from Jones. Some of the problems Dallas had against the Jets were clearly coaching related, so it’s not as if Garrett is merely a victim of circumstance.

There’s still plenty of time for the Cowboys to get healthy and turn things around, and it sounds like Garrett is going to be afforded the opportunity to ride it out. While it seems unlikely that he would be fired mid-season, there’s a reason Dallas chose not to extend his contract prior to the season. If the team misses the playoffs, his job will be in jeopardy.

Browns relieved Garrett incident with punching fan not worse .
BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Browns coach Freddie Kitchens believes the fan who punched Myles Garrett was lucky. "I was glad the guy ran," Kitchens cracked Monday as Cleveland returned from its bye weekend. As the Browns began their break last week, Garrett was driving in downtown Cleveland when a fan pulled alongside him and asked for a photograph. Garrett told police he asked the man to wait while he was on the phone but then got punched.
