Yankees include Sabathia, Hicks on ALCS roster The New York Yankees will have left-hander CC Sabathia and outfielder Aaron Hicks on their 25-man roster for the American League Championship Series against the Houston Astros, the team announced Saturday. Sabathia, 39, was left off the Yankees' ALDS roster against the Minnesota Twins because of a shoulder issue. Hicks, meanwhile, hasn't played since early August after dealing with a right flexor tendon strain. There was speculation that the 30-year-old might need Tommy John surgery, but Hicks was able to avoid undergoing the procedure.Copyright © 2019 Score Media Ventures Inc. All rights reserved. NEW YORK (AP) — Aaron Hicks returns to the New York Yankees' starting lineup for the first time since Aug. 3 and Giancarlo Stanton remains out for the second straight game when the American League Championship Series resumes with the teams tied 1-all.

Giancarlo Stanton Out of Yankees Lineup for Game 2 Against Astros Well, this is more than a bit concerning. Only one day after showing how effective he can be with the bat on the big stage, Giancarlo Stanton is not in the Yankees' lineup for Sunday's ALCS Game 2 against the Astros and Justin Verlander. Though the Yanks went up 1-0 in the series on Saturday night, every game is crucial, and this benching raises alarm bells. Hicks has not played since Aug . 3 because of a right elbow flexor strain. Sabathia missed the Division Series sweep of Minnesota with a sore. His lefty relief spot was taken in the Division Series by Tyler Lyons, who pitched a perfect inning in Game 2.

Brett Gardner moved from center and replaced Stanton in left.

Limited by injuries to 18 games during the regular season, Stanton homered in the opener and missed Game 2 because of a strained right quadriceps. Manager Aaron Boone says Stanton is available to pinch hit.

First baseman DJ LeMahieu was leading off Wednesday's game, followed by right fielder Aaron Judge, Gardner in left, designated hitter Edwin Encarnación, second baseman Gleyber Torres, shortstop Didi Gregorius, catcher Gary Sánchez, third baseman Gio Urshela and Hicks in center. Luis Severino is on the mound.
