Giants can’t overcome swarming Vikings defense in 28-10 loss

Giants can’t overcome swarming Vikings defense in 28-10 loss The New York Giants were over-matched against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 5, losing the game 28-10 and falling under .500 on the season. However, looking to get their own season back on track, the Vikings had other ideas and came out firing without hesitation.

Daniel Jones rushed for a 7-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, his second of the game, leading the Giants About two hours later, Jones stood in the pocket on a critical fourth-down play in the game’s final two minutes. Jones dropped back to pass and waited. When no receiver seemed open, he

The Giants have named QB Daniel Jones as the starter for Sunday's game. Coach Pat Shurmur announced today that Jones will make his first career start on Sunday, when the 0-2 Giants face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Raymond James Stadium.

Daniel Jones’ turnover problems plagued the Giants again Sunday in a 27-21 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, their third straight defeat. And a shockingly poor run defense surrendered three TDs to backup back Chase Edmonds.

But head coach Pat Shurmur’s inexplicable play calling in the fourth quarter put a cherry on top.

The Giants faced 3rd-and-18 on their own 30-yard line, trailing 24-21 with 3:11 to play. And Shurmur called a draw to Saquon Barkley, who had reinjured his right ankle midgame, that gained four yards.

On fourth down, Jones was sacked by Patrick Peterson and fumbled away his third turnover. Haason Reddick recovered. And Zane Gonzalez kicked a field goal to stretch the lead to six and give Arizona 17 points off Giant turnovers.

Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones had another strong preseason game in Thursday night's win over Jones continues to impress. He completed 9 of 11 passes for 141 yards and a passer rating of After fumbling for the third time in the past two games, Jones responded on the very next play

Duke’s football coach, David Cutcliffe, was in the green room Thursday night with Daniel Jones when the young quarterback received a phone call from the Giants . The team was making the surprise pick of the N.F.L. draft by selecting Jones No. 6 over all.

The Giants (2-5) got the ball back, but their offense was smothered for a Jones fumble the Giants recovered, a Barkley drop, and a couple more huge hits on Jones.

Jones in all was sacked eight times and completed 22 of 35 passes for a touchdown, an interception and two fumbles lost.

The harsh reality was that Dave Gettleman’s Giants, from his No. 6 overall pick on down, were outplayed by the 2018 bottom-feeder that made the No. 1 overall pick in April’s NFL Draft coached by inventive offensive mind Kliff Kingsbury.

Top pick Kyler Murray didn’t light up the stat sheet playing QB for the Cards. Passing wasn’t easy for either QB as the rain came down on a slippery and gray fall afternoon. And the Cardinals were terribly sloppy and undisciplined, committing penalties in droves.

Daniel Jones remembers Tom Brady spoiling Super Bowl party

Daniel Jones remembers Tom Brady spoiling Super Bowl party Even if the Patriots beat the Giants tonight, it won’t be the first time Tom Brady has ruined things for Daniel Jones. The first time was when Jones was 6.

Giants ' Daniel Jones won't blame recent turnovers on youth. How Giants can get a handle on Daniel Jones ' turnover problem . Giants lose out on replay reviews. The Giants see Jones as something more and will be proven right, or wrong, whenever Eli Manning’s hold on the job is

Daniel Jones got a first down before getting sacked for the fifth time. Then, on third -and-18, Pat Shurmur The Giants finally woke up and found the end zone when Jones threw a perfect 28-yard touchdown pass to Rhett Ellison between two defenders to make it 17-7 3 :32 into the second quarter.

But Edmonds scored three rushing TDs, two with no blue Giant jerseys anywhere close to him on defense. And Jones’ and the Giants’ shortcomings outweighed it all.

Jones, who now has 12 turnovers to eight TDs in six games plays, committed two more killer giveaways on Sunday. First, he threw an interception to linebacker Jordan Hicks on the Giants’ first drive that gave the Cards a short field and a 14-0 early lead.

Then, in the third quarter trailing 17-14, Jones showed no awareness waiting too long for a screen to develop as Arizona edge rusher Chandler Jones swiped a fumble out. Murray and the Cardinals punched another TD in for a 24-14 lead.

Aldrick Rosas missed a 37-yard field goal in the third quarter. Evan Engram, back from injury, had a huge drop of a deep pass on the final drive before halftime, costing the Giants points.

The second turnover was the kind of head-scratching mistake, frankly, that got Eli Manning benched in Jones’ favor in Week 3.

Three takeaways from Patriots' win over the Giants

Three takeaways from Patriots' win over the Giants The Patriots scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams in this one.New England scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams in the win. And while Tom Brady wasn't brilliant, he did more than enough to keep the Patriots undefeated on the year.

Jones was a three -year starter at Duke, where opposing defenses are generally middling; Haskins started a single year at Ohio State, where the competition is higher, and I’d be a lot more confident about this choice if Gettleman had made literally any successful moves since taking over the Giants .

Rookies Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones will face career-long comparisons after being the first two quarterbacks selected in the The Giants won his first two starts before falling to Minnesota and New England. The Giants have committed a league-high 15 turnovers and are minus-7 in turnover ratio.

The Giants had roared back early from a 17-0 deficit in the second quarter with a 28-yard Jones touchdown pass to Rhett Ellison.

Then Michael Thomas blocked a Cardinals punt in the end zone that fullback Eli Penny recovered for a touchdown to make it 17-14.

But the Giants failed to score going into the half as Will Hernandez was flagged for a holding penalty that sprung a big Barkley run, and Engram’s drop devastated the drive.

Now the Giants are in trouble. Especially after Shurmur’s inexplicable finish.

Giants will not go back to Eli Manning after Daniel Jones’ struggles .
Jones has thrown eight interceptions and has lost two fumbles in his past four starts. The team is going nowhere fast.
