Hole 8 – Par 4

Driver. Doesn’t love it, but he’s alright.

Hole 7 – Par 3

You know what’s cool about outside chances for birdies? They’re chances for birdies. Another solid swing from TW and he finds the middle of the green. Let’s get to 5 under, shall we? WE SHALL. Are you kidding me?! That putt was like in Space Jam when Michael Jordan’s hole-in-one was aided by a magnet. Tiger’s putt just made a beeline for the bottom of the cup.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 5 under thru 16.

Hole 6 – Par 5

He didn’t love this one, which misses the fairway into the left rough. Lays this up and has a good chance to get close with his third on the par 5. This one just hangs onto the green, 10 feet to the left of the cup. He had the right speed with the putt, was just an inch or so ff. Taps in for par and he shakes his head, because par is a real disappointment in this round.

Tiger Woods made four birdies, got a few good bounces and kept a clean card until the last hole to record a 68. The prospects of the outright lead disappeared with a bogey on the ninth when he pushed his approach right of the green and it finished up in a female spectator’s handbag.

Americans Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele and Kevin Kisner share the lead on 9-under par heading into the final round of the British Open, with Tiger Woods four shots back in his bid for a first major title in 10 years. MGN Online/ZUMA Press/Rick Shiels Golf / Youtube.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 4 under thru 15.

Hole 5 – Par 3

199 yards with water to the right. Tiger finds the fairway, safely in the middle of the green. He likes it. He got a great read off Kodaira’s putt and makes that seven birdies in his last 10 holes. TIED FOR THE LEAD.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 4 under thru 14.

Hole 4 – Par 4

Tiger hits a b-e-a-ufitul drive down the right side of the fairway. He pulled 8 iron for his second from 182 yards (lol what?!) and lands this one 10 feet below the hole. Another birdie chance. The kid is rolling. And he isn’t done yet. Tiger rolls in the putt and takes a share of the lead.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 under thru 13.

Hole 3 – Par 3

It wasn’t the greatest swing, but TW’s on the green and putting for birdie, well outside 30 feet. 30 feet? No problem. Tiger buries this putt with ease and shows little to no emotion. He’s now just one shot back of Sung Kang, C.T. Pan, Hideki Matsuyama and Xander Schauffele for the lead.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 12.

Hole 2 – Par 4

Iron off the tee here for Tiger. It’s a safe play on the short par 4 with trees and bunkers to the left and right, with a 280-yard carry to take the trees out of play. He’s in the middle of the fairway, in prime position to attack the green. From 133 yards out Tiger sticks this one inside 10 feet and puts a little English on it with some spin to check it up for another birdie chance. Tiger catches the edge with the birdie putt and cleans up for par. Tough break. Par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under thru 11.

Hole 1 – Par 4

Tiger makes the turn with a little pep in his step and finds the fairway on No. 1. Tiger lands the approach a good 30 feet beyond the front pin and spins it back to about 20 feet. Useful. Birdie putt just misses the edge, taps in for par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under thru 10.

Hole 18 – Par 5

MASHED POTATOES! The Big Cat smacked the Big Stick and finds the fairway deep on the long par 5. He’s rewarded good drives with birdies today, and getting below par at the turn would have seemed impossible after his opening stretch. Tiger went for the green in two and now has an eagle putt awaiting from, let’s say … 25 feet? This could be huge. Eagle putt misses but it leaves a tap-in birdie. A colorful 1-under 35 on the front.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under thru 9.

Hole 17 – Par 4

No. 17 is a monster, but Tiger paints the middle of the fairway with a bomb off the tee. This approach isn’t as dialed-in, finding the green pin-high, outside 30 feet. Not much to see here, two-putt par. On to 18!

TIGER ON THE DAY: Even thru 8.

Hole 16 – Par 3

No. 16 is playing 183 today, and TW went after the pin again. He’s above the hole, just outside of 10 feet for a chance at three in a row to get back to even. YAHTZEE! Tiger makes it three straight birdies and he’s back to even. This is getting fun.

TIGER ON THE DAY: Even thru 7.

Hole 15 – Par 4

Tiger’s a man of the people today, as this 3-wood also finds the right rough and the gallery. The Japanese fans are getting their money’s worth today. Despite a less-than-stellar spot, TW went pin-seeking, sticking his approach six feet below the hole. Don’t look now but … that’s back-to-back birdies for Tiger! He’s feeling it now.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 over thru 6.

Hole 14 – Par 5

Japan’s very-own Hideki Matsuyama, playing with Jordan Spieth and Adam Scott, has a gallery the size of Tiger’s, which rarely happens at Tour events.

The first par-5 of the day is a burly one at 608 yards. His tee shot finds the gallery on the right, but his lie seems to be okay, sitting up in the rough. He lays up into the fairway from there and sticks his third inside 20 feet. TW finally gets a putt to drop, burying the birdie look. Let’s see if this jumpstarts some momentum.

Hole 13 – Par 3

Fun fact: The walk from 12 green to 13 tee is longer than the 13th hole! The walk is some 170 yards while the par-3 13th is playing 141 yards. Anyways, back to the action.

Tiger hits it tight on No. 13 but can’t get a shot back, missing his birdie putt on the right edge. Par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 over thru 4.

Hole 12 – Par 4

After poor swings off the first two tees, Tiger paints the fairway here on No. 12. His approach wasn’t as solid off a downhill lie, comes up well short, some 50 feet from the pin. But hey, it’s a birdie putt. TW got a little aggressive, leaving a testy 4-6 footer for par. Another par putt misses, leaving a tap-in for bogey. Not good. Not good at all.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 over thru 3.

Hole 11 – Par 4

No. 11 is an uphill beat at 486 yards, so Tiger pulls driver and misses left into a fairway bunker. He lays up from there, simply advancing his second out of the bunker about 150 yards. His third shot from 135 yards was another solid approach, this time to about 10-12 feet. He slides the par attempt three feet by, makes comebacker for a second consecutive bogey. He doesn’t look that bad, but 0-2 off the tee has him behind early.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2-over thru 2.

Hole 10 – Par 4

The Big Cat pulled 3-wood for his first hole of the new season and rinsed his ball in the water. Solid start. After his penalty he hit solid shot to eight feet but his par save was too weak. Opens with bogey, and we’re off.
