Sport Tom Brady explains why he's angry at this point in the football season
If Tom Brady leaves the Patriots, where would he go?
Ever since the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady agreed to a contract extension that isn’t really a contract extension and Brady put his house in Boston up for sale, some have been speculating that Brady won’t be back in New England next year. On Monday night, ESPN’s Adam Schefter did more than speculate that 2019 [more]Schefter may simply be throwing a bone to Brady and/or to agent Don Yee in order to generate interest elsewhere and/or to create leverage to get Brady a better deal in New England for 2021. Or maybe Brady really is thinking about leaving.
New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady wasn’t happy on Monday morning. That much was clear when he logged on for his call with WEEI sports radio. But he wasn’t sad, even if he sounded a little down after his team’s 37-20 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night.
“I’m more angry. I’m just an angry football — I’m like an angry during football season. It’s always kind of at a boil — just below boil. It doesn’t take much to push me over the edge,” Brady said with “The Greg Hill Show” on WEEI on Monday. “Anything during football season that doesn’t go well makes me angry.”
Tom Brady: I don’t know what the future holds
During the pregame show before Monday night’s game between the Patriots and Jets, Adam Schefter of ESPN noted that Tom Brady‘s contract is up after the 2019 season and that he’s put his house in Massachusetts up for sale. Schefter went on to say that Brady is “setting it up to move on,” although there’s [more]
That showed up in the loss when Brady was 30 of 46 for 285 yards, one touchdown and one interception. One of his most animated moments of the evening came after the officials flagged Brady for intentional grounding on a target for receiver Phillip Dorsett. Brady appealed to the referees; he thought the Ravens were deserving of a penalty — not the Patriots. Dorsett got bullied during the route, which was why Brady’s throw was such a misfire.
“The guy drilled (Dorsett) at eight yards, so I said, ‘Isn’t that illegal contact?’ And (the official) was like, ‘Well, no.’ So I’m like, ‘Well, I’m sorry, sir, I don’t know what you’re looking at.’ It was very polite. It was like, ‘Excuse me, mister, I thought there might have been a penalty, actually by them,'” Brady said. But, of course, it’s not easy to believe him.
Tom Brady still has the NFL’s best selling jersey
Tom Brady has been the Patriots’ starting quarterback since 2001. At this point, you’d think anyone who wanted a Brady jersey would have it. But after all these years, those jersey are still selling. In fact, the NFL Players Association announced that Brady has the No. 1 selling jersey this year. Brady makes more than $2 million a year off the apparel deal the NFL has with the NFLPA, which gives players a percentage of every sale of items with their names and likenesses.
Regardless, the Patriots quarterback admitted that, even though he wasn’t having a great day, his daughter brightened his morning. She asked to join him for a quick snuggle before she went to school.
“That actually, for me, puts a lot of things in perspective,” Brady said.
The Patriots get a bye in Week 10, which should be a welcome rest for Brady who took two sacks and 10 quarterback hits on Sunday night. He’ll be looking ahead to push his teammates to step up their game in the coming weeks.
“Ignore the hype,” Brady said. “When everything’s great, it’s really not. When everything’s bad, it’s really not.”
