Rockets spoil Chris Paul's return with victory over Thunder

Rockets spoil Chris Paul's return with victory over Thunder The Rockets offense that had been such faithful companions for so long again abandoned them through stunning stretches. But for the second-consecutive game, it showed up just long enough. The Rockets rode one strong shooting third quarter to build a cushion just large enough for them to hold on, topping Oklahoma City, 116-112, Monday at Toyota Center. Russell Westbrook, in his first game against his former team, had 21 points, nine assists and 12 rebounds. James Harden led the Rockets with a season-high 40 points, including four free throws in the final 13 seconds left to seal the win.Chris Paul, in his return to Houston, had 15 points for the Thunder.

CHICAGO – There was a time, way back in the beginning of the week, the Rockets were not hitting as many 3s as their opponent. That was never going to last.

James Harden underlined the turnaround, hitting more than twice as many 3s as the Bulls managed on Saturday on his way to 42 points. But the Rockets had to be more encouraged with the way they shut down the Bulls on the other end to finish a second-half romp with a 117-94 win and their first three-game wining streak of the season.

(AP) — James Harden scored 44 points, and the Houston Rockets recovered from a poor performance a night earlier at Miami for a 107-100 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. Harden carried the load for the Rockets, who didn't shoot particularly well (38 and were without Russell Westbrook, who took the night off for rest. The former MVP finished 12 of 28 from the field, including 7 of 16 from 3-point range. He added 10 rebounds and six assists.Eric Gordon added 16 points, while Danuel House Jr. scored 15. With the Bulls making just 37.8 percent of their shots, just 4 of 32 (12.5 percent) of their 3s, the Rockets held an opponent shy of 100 points for the first time this season.

Harden made 9 of 19 3-pointers, adding 10 rebounds and nine assists. Russell Westbrook added 26 points, 18 in the second half.

In a twist few likely saw coming, the Rockets and their previously broken defense not only did a good job keeping the Bulls from scoring, for a half, they stopped themselves, too.

The Rockets shot well through much of the first half, until stumbling through the last four minutes. But from the opening minutes through the final possession of the first half, they gave the ball away. Averaging 15.6 turnovers per game, the Rockets had 15 in the first half.

Dion Waiters' mother calls 'gummies' overdose report 'fake news'

Dion Waiters' mother calls 'gummies' overdose report 'fake news' Dion Waiters’ mother posted on Instagram Saturday morning to dismiss a report about her son’s health. © Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports On Friday night, Andy Slater, a host on 640AM South Florida, reported that a Miami Heat player had a medical emergency on the team’s flight from Phoenix to L.A. The Heat lost on Friday night to the Lakers, and Waiters did not play due to illness.Slater later reported that Waiters overdosed on “gummies,” passed out and had a seizure when he woke up.

They defended the Bulls well enough to lead by as much as eight with four minutes left in the half, though that often meant watching the Bulls miss open 3s. The Bulls made just 2 of 17 3-pointers while the Rockets hit 8 of 20. Harden had 20 first-half points with four assists, but in the final four minutes of the half, he missed his final four shots with three turnovers.

The Rockets’ issues holding onto the ball limited them to just 10 points in the paint in the half, largely because they turned it over whenever they sought to pass inside. They took just 10 shots in the paint. The Bulls headed the other way so often, they had 36 points in the paint, making up for all those missed 3s.

When the Rockets did take care of the ball in the third quarter, they took a one-point halftime lead and pushed it to 22 and led by as much as 28 in the fourth.

The Bulls, with the Rockets turnovers no longer helping them, never threatened again.

Opinion: Charles Barkley's 'joke' wasn't funny, and neither was his defense of it .
One in three female homicide victims is killed by an intimate partner, and domestic-related murders are rising after almost four decades of decline. There is an untold psychological toll for both abuse victims and their families, as well as an economic one. Each year, according to the NCADV, domestic violence costs the U.S. economy between $5.8 billion and $12.6 billion. So, no. Domestic violence, and the general health and safety of women, is not something that is ever funny. When women are very literally used as punching bags every day, making that abuse a punchline is simply obscene.
