Michigan State AD says there’s been no discussion about firing head coach Mark Dantonio

Michigan State AD says there’s been no discussion about firing head coach Mark Dantonio If Mark Dantonio isn't back at MSU, it's because he will be stepping away not because the school pushed him out.The team is currently hovering at .500 for the season going into Saturday’s game against Illinois and the Spartans’ offense in particular is operating at a nails on the chalkboard level (21.8 ppg, 110th nationally) that would be in the dregs of the Big Ten were it not for the ineptness of fellow conference rival Northwestern.

The 2009– 10 Michigan State Spartans men's basketball team represented Michigan State University in the 2009– 10 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. Their head coach was Tom Izzo who was in his 15th year.

The Spartans did it repeatedly and throughout Saturday's game against No. 14 Michigan. And their last chance to get one memorable win out of this season vanished with every penalty, missed tackle, blown coverage and poor coaching decision.

BOX SCORE: NO. 14 MICHIGAN 44, MICHIGAN STATE 10

The Wolverines were sharks to blood, and things went from bad to worse for MSU in a 44-10 loss at Michigan Stadium.

It was their fifth straight defeat, their fourth non-competitive performance to a ranked opponent in that stretch. And if the largest margin of defeat of Mark Dantonio’s tenure against U-M wasn’t bad enough, things turned from bad into worse.

More chippiness: U-M, MSU flagged for several unsportsmanlike penalties in rivalry

His players unraveled unlike they have in his previous 12 rivalry games against U-M, a reversion to the lack of discipline the Spartans showed under previous regimes. Physically, mentally and emotionally.

Michigan turned the ball over five times during a humbling 14- 10 loss to rival Michigan State on More: Michigan 's strong defense wasted in loss to Michigan State. Everything was a mess and perhaps It wasn't just about bad weather, though, as Michigan 's first half – played in dry conditions

Dantonio owns Michigan ; Harbaugh is yet to beat his rivals. These are the actual truths about these Michigan State's Kenny Willekes celebrates a tackle for a loss during the third quarter on Saturday Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio communicates to the booth via his headset during the fourth

On the first play of the fourth quarter, trailing 27-10, Dantonio decided to go for it on fourth-and-1. He substituted junior A.J. Arcuri at left tackle in place of true freshman Devontae Dobbs, and Arcuri was called for a false start.

Jake Hartbarger’s ensuing punt was blocked by Michigan. Shea Patterson threw a 22-yard touchdown pass on the next play.

Then MSU’s Brian Lewerke had a pass tipped by receiver Cody White and picked off by Lavert Hill. The Spartans started pushing and shoving on the U-M sideline after the play, and the Wolverines were hooting and hollering and revving up an already rabid crowd.

Patterson dropped back on Michigan’s ensuing play and threw a quick screen. MSU defensive end Jacub Panasiuk took four steps after the pass teed off on Patterson. He was immediately ejected.

The Wolverines got a field goal after a Donovan Peoples-Jones touchdown was overruled. The damage was already well-inflicted and understood.

Spartans contradict Dantonio on concussion check. The interim director of athletic medicine at Michigan State said in a statement Tuesday that quarterback Brian Lewerke was checked for a concussion late in Saturday's loss to Illinois , contradicting coach Mark Dantonio 's comments from

Michigan State came out aggressive, and all the credit goes to Dantonio . Michigan turned it over five times Michigan 's Jim Harbaugh was outcoached by Mark Dantonio . The Spartans came out aggressive, and all But he made it far worse . O’Korn scrambled and threw a horrible pass, and it

There were two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties on the same play earlier in the game that killed MSU’s offensive momentum, including White taunting after his defender after making a 20-yard catch. Those two flags sent MSU backward 30 yards afterward.

Shakur Brown was flagged for a questionable late hit out of bounds, but there was no question on his pass interference penalty. Both set up second-quarter U-M touchdowns.

Add all that to an offense that continued to stagnate and a defense that is struggling to stop opponents on third down, and it adds up to MSU’s worst loss to the Wolverines since losing 49-3 in Bobby Williams’ final game before being fired in 2002.

The Spartans are now 4-6 and 2-5 in the Big Ten, but their record is entirely irrelevant. They need two wins over lowly opponents to get bowl-eligible, traveling next week to Rutgers (noon/FS1) and wrapping up at home Nov. 30 against Maryland.

MSU did not measure up to its rival, as Dantonio has preached. Worse still, it took a turn back into the dark ages of the program.

Michigan State (4-2) was sharp early, building a 28-point lead early in the second half. Once Edwards got rolling, the Spartans had no answer. Projected as a lottery pick, the 6-foot-5 Edwards brought the Bulldogs (3-2) back almost entirely by himself, scoring 33 of his 37 points in the second half.Edwards hit 7 of 13 3s — many of those contested — in the second half and threw a two-handed, overhead bounce pass to Rayshaun Hammonds for a layup to pull Georgia within 75-73.

6 college football coaches who would be fired tomorrow if buyouts didn't exist .
It is officially time to start deliberating which head coaches' seats have become hot enough to earn them a pink slip. It goes without saying that a plethora of programs have underperformed this campaign, but some bosses are downright deserving of a swift hook -- if only firings weren't so expensive in the era of big contract buyouts. With that in mind, let's identify six coaches who'd be axed right here, right now if the price tag wasn't so steep.
