The Clippers cruised to a 150-101 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday with George showing efficiency in almost every category. He passed Phil Smith for most points in a Clippers home game with a career-high 37. No one else in NBA history had ever scored that many points in fewer than 21 minutes. Only two days earlier in a loss to New Orleans, George had 33 points, nine rebounds and four assists in 24 minutes in his season debut.

What Paul George's impending return means for the Clippers

What Paul George's impending return means for the Clippers What Paul George's impending return means for the ClippersDays after ramping up his practice workload over the weekend, injured six-time All-Star Paul George is still targeting the middle of next week for his return to game action, The Athletic’s Sam Amick reported. The Clips are reportedly planning for George to debut on the road against either the Houston Rockets on Nov. 13 or the New Orleans Pelicans the following night, resting on one end of that back-to-back.

The Clippers also have 10 more sets of back-to-back games to get through, even after Thursday’s visit to New Orleans. We present you with all that math to explain why Paul George , who is scheduled to make his Clippers debut on Thursday night against the Pelicans, can share the floor with his fellow

With Clippers star player Kawhi Leonard out of games due to load management, fans need another star player to fill in the gaps. George played exceptionally well in his first game back. Though he fouled out late in the third quarter he still ended the game with 26 points, six rebounds and three

How has George become so efficient in such limited playing time when he hadn’t played in nearly seven months after having offseason surgery on his left and right shoulders?

From NFL plays to college sports scores, all the top sports news you need to know every day.

“New shoulders,” George said. “I can’t say nothing else to that. I got new shoulders. They haven’t been this healthy in a long time.”

No, they haven’t. George had not played in an NBA game since April 23 when the Oklahoma City Thunder fell in five games to the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the NBA playoffs. Shortly afterwards, George then had separate surgical procedures to repair a torn tendon in his right rotator cuff and a torn labrum in his left shoulder. And now?

What happened to Paul George and when will the Clippers star return to play ? Find out the latest George admitted to ESPN’s Ramona Shelbourne that he had surgery on both shoulders which The Clippers have not released an official timeline, but George noted he was targeting a November return.

George knocked down so many shots that he announced, “I’m back,” before mimicking Michael Jordan’s infamous shrug during the 1992 NBA playoffs. He became so confident that he threw an off-the-backboard pass to Montrezl Harrell for a dunk. George has looked so prepared that Clippers coach Doc Rivers openly wondered if George has trained earlier than the Clippers let him.

“He’s taking advantage of our offense like he’s been playing the offense for five years,” Rivers said. “He knows how to take advantage of what we’re running and to me that’s maybe he’s watched even more film than he’s told us because that’s impressive.”

George did not seem impressed, though. After sitting down at the lectern, George scanned the box score and noticed his three turnovers. Then, he offered more critiques than compliments about his game.

“I’m going to still be critical,” George said. “I had a lot of errors from defense to bad passes. I’m not going to play a perfect game. There were a lot of different plays I wish I could take back. But again, this is all fresh for me right now. I live with it and get better with it.”

Paul George makes his debut for the Clippers , and the absence of Kawhi Leonard leaves the spotlight for George in his first game with his new team. Therefore, the Clippers are initially expected to play George below his career average in minutes (36.9). George , who grew up in Palmdale just outside of

How to explain George viewing his game the same way a movie critic nitpicks an acclaimed film? Consider a few things here. George admitted feeling rusty in his first two games. He faulted himself for laboring on defense. George also made fun of himself for Rivers yanking him with 9:58 left in the game after he tripped over himself. And George knows his credentials as a six-time All-Star.

Therefore, George insisted he played “terrible” in his Clippers debut in New Orleans on Thursday after his 33-point game. And against Atlanta? After becoming a major factor as the Clippers (8-5) snapped a two-game losing streak, George believed he “felt ten times better than I felt going into New Orleans.”

“I think he knows I have him on a time limit,” Rivers joked. “So he's trying to get it all in.”

Either way, George’s return could not have come at a more opportune time. Clippers star Kawhi Leonard missed his second consecutive game and fifth because of “left knee injury management." So did Clippers guard Patrick Beverley because of a sore left calf. George filled in the scoring load just fine to account for Leonard’s absence. George defended well enough to account for Beverley’s intensity.

It was the rest of his game — from ball handling to defense — that concerned him. Jrue Holiday scored 36 points and stole the ball from George three times in the final minutes to lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a 132-127 victory over Los Angeles on Thursday night. “I thought I was terrible,” said George, who was limited to 24 minutes by early foul trouble but still scored 33 points.

“I try to pride myself on being able to pick up and play in any system and just play basketball. Doc has all the credit to that,” George said. “He’s putting me in great positions to be aggressive and be in attack mode.”

The script could have been more compelling. Leonard and George could have made their dynamic duo debut.

Perhaps it is just more poetic for Leonard and George to make their debut together when the Clippers host Oklahoma City, George's former team, on Monday at Staples Center. Rivers considered that “most likely” will happen. So for now, George offered a compelling solo act in front of his girlfriend, parents, sister and about five to 10 friends from his Palmdale hometown.

After idolizing Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant growing up, George had always dreamed of playing in the same venue albeit in a Clippers uniform. So just imagine George’s reaction when he heard a thunderous cheers when he heard his name during lineup introductions.

“Honestly, that's probably the biggest thing that I'm most happy about,” George said. “I get to do that on a nightly basis.”

Will George be this productive on a nightly basis? Too early to say. George did his damage against a struggling Hawks team. Yet, his performance revealed a few things.

George appeared ready despite only completing one full contact practice. George mirrored the intensity he displayed in competitive 3-on-3 drills with teammate Jerome Robinson. George demonstrated teamwork with his lob to Harrell. If not for his minutes restriction, perhaps George could have accomplished more.

If Paul George continues to hit clutch shots, the Clippers will be unstoppable .
Paul George hit a go-ahead shot with 25 seconds left in the fourth quarter to lift the Clippers to a 90-88 win over his former Oklahoma City Thunder team on Monday night. The shot wasn’t only significant because it came against the team he forced himself away from in a trade over the summer — it was the same shot he’d struggled with in previous years. George had never historically been considered clutch, and for good reason: Prior to the start of the 2018-19 season, he was 1-for-12 on go-ahead threes in the final 30 seconds of regulation or in overtime.
