Avs' Grubauer starting vs. Flames after 5-game absence

Avs' Grubauer starting vs. Flames after 5-game absence Colorado Avalanche goaltender Philipp Grubauer will return to the crease Tuesday against the Calgary Flames, the team announced. Grubauer, 27, has missed the club's last five contests with a lower-body injury he sustained earlier this month. Netminder Pavel Francouz, who suffered a head injury Nov. 12, has also been cleared to return and will assume backup duties Tuesday. The Avalanche weathered the storm with Grubauer sidelined, posting a 4-1-0 record in his absence while receiving steady play from Francouz and rookie puck-stoppers Antoine Bibeau and Adam Werner.Through 11 starts this season, Grubauer has authored a 6-3-2 record with a 2.

Repeating an explanation that he might as well make into a t-shirt at this point, Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan told reporters today including Sam Kasan of Pens Inside Scoop that Patric Hornqvist will be out “longer-term” with a lower-body injury. Hornqvist was injured in practice yesterday.

Hornqvist’s absence, when combined with the other injuries the Penguins are dealing with and Zach Aston-Reese being held out with an illness, means Stefan Noesen skated on the second line today at practice. Noesen was only signed to an NHL contract yesterday. Joseph Blandisi, who cleared waivers today, was still centering the fourth line with assistant coach Mark Recchi on his left side.

NFL scouts believe Tua Tagovailoa could still be top ten pick

NFL scouts believe Tua Tagovailoa could still be top ten pick Tua Tagovailoa's recent hip injury may mean the end of his college career, but may not have as big of an impact on his NFL draft prospects as was previously feared.Three NFL evaluators told Matt Zenitz and Mike Rodak of that they would still expect Tagovailoa to go in the top half of the first round, and possibly still in the top ten.

It’s impressive how well the Penguins have done even with their major injuries, but after losing their last two have now fallen to fifth place in the Metropolitan Division. Hornqvist himself has already missed several games earlier in the year and will now be out of the picture for some time. Evgeni Malkin and whoever is left up front will have even more pressure on them to keep the team in the playoff picture.

The Avs be without Rantanen for their game Friday before he returns for the second half of the home-and-home set. Rantanen tallied five goals and 12 points in nine games before the injury. He was held pointless just once. After jumping out to a 7-1-1 record to begin the year, the Avalanche have gone 7-7-1 with Rantanen out of the lineup.
