This is a hot topic heading into "Black Monday," the day after Week 17 of the NFL season when a handful of coaches typically get fired. Meyer, who retired as coach at Ohio State after the 2018 college football season with a 187-32 career record, spent the 2019 season in the Fox studio as an analyst. The last time Meyer took a year off, he was preparing for the college game.

Could the same happen for him in a move to the NFL? If that is the case, then three teams seem to make the most sense for him to consider if the jobs are available. The Redskins already have a vacancy, and the Cowboys and Browns might not be far behind.

Which of these teams would be the best fit for Meyer if he decides to make the move?

Urban Meyer to the Cowboys

  • Pros

The Cowboys are built to win now, assuming they lock up Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper with contract extensions. They have enough talent to make the playoffs amid a horrible season (which might happen next week), and Meyer would provide a leadership figure in the locker room around star running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Jerry Jones' best Cowboys coaches were hyper-successful college coaches, and Meyer is of the same mold as Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer. It's a relationship that might not last more than five years. It might not last more than three years. But there is that shot at a Super Bowl right now, and it's a chance worth taking since the Cowboys have the 11th best record in the NFL since 2010.

Urban Meyer is not one of those coaches . Appearing Friday on Colin Cowherd’s radio show, Meyer made it Making Meyer ’s public pitch for the Cowboys job even more confusing is the fact that he supposedly left Nonetheless I bet he wouldn’t last longer than Steve Spurrier did with the Redskins .

Legendary college football coach Urban Meyer sparked speculation about his own future Friday when he was asked whether Oklahoma Sooners coach Lincoln Riley would take the There is no indication that Jason Garrett’s job is in jeopardy. At the time of Meyer ’s comments, the Cowboys were 3-3 and

Of the 10 teams ahead of Dallas, only Kansas City has not been to the Super Bowl in that stretch. Meyer could be the voice that helps the Cowboys get over the top.

  • Cons

Wasn't Bill Parcells supposed to be that voice? Or Garrett?

Meyer would still have to work with Jones, and that's bound to produce an overflow of drama. Meyer had enough of that at the college level, and the personality clash with the longtime Cowboys owner would be monitored on a weekly basis.

Is the 55-year-old Meyer, who has dealt with health issues at Florida and Ohio State, ready for that again? The spotlight on Dallas is bigger than the one on Gainesville, Fla., or Columbus, Ohio.

Of the three jobs, this one comes with by far the most pressure to win right away.

Why Dallas job is better than return to college

Urban Meyer to the Browns

  • Pros

Meyer grew up in Ashtabula, Ohio. He played college football in Cincinnati and won a national championship with the Buckeyes. If Meyer took over a team that desperately needs the right coach and took the Browns to the AFC Playoffs, then he would be side-by-side with Ohio native Paul Brown in a lot of coaching discussions.

NFL Week 15 winners, losers: 49ers' defeat leaves wide-open race for home-field in NFC

NFL Week 15 winners, losers: 49ers' defeat leaves wide-open race for home-field in NFC The 49ers' loss opened up the race for home-field advantage in the NFC. Meanwhile across the Bay, the Raiders had a bummer of a finale in Oakland. We saw a handful of teams clinch playoff berths, with the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills all booking their tickets. We also saw the opposite, how some squads watched their playoff hopes disintegrate. The team that has the most damage control to overcome is the Los Angeles Rams, whose chances to play in January hang on needing the teams ahead of them in the standings to lose.

Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer ’s name has surfaced again for a head coaching job that isn’t even open. Now, with all the struggles in Cleveland, there are reports circulating that the Browns could target the three-time national champion coach as their next head man.

Urban Meyer & Cowboys ? NFL Draft Trades? Le’Veon Bell, Marcus Mariota, Urban Meyer , Ron Rivera, Jason Garrett & Freddie Kitchens are the main topics discussed on Would Rivera be willing to take a job as a defensive coordinator? Marcus Mariota was benched by the Tennessee Titans & Ryan

Cleveland has enough talent to make a Super Bowl run in this window, and the Browns have the most cap space among the three teams. The roster still has Baker Mayfield and Myles Garrett on rookie contracts, and Meyer had success managing egos on super-talented rosters at Florida and Ohio State. The NFL is a different game, but Cleveland is so starved for success.

Meyer would galvanize the large cross-section of the fan base that roots for the Buckeyes. If anybody can work up the "Cleveland vs. The World" angle, it's Meyer. That would play well within the AFC North.

  • Cons

Yeah, the Browns are trying that approach with Freddie Kitchens and, well, you see the results.

The Cleveland-against-the-world thing doesn't work when the team can't get out of its own way. This franchise has been doing that since 1999. The Browns' issues run from the top down, and this one of the NFL's most undisciplined teams.

How would Meyer fix that? How would Meyer, a notorious control freak, handle a roster that includes Mayfield and Odell Beckham Jr.? Those are two personalities that are much larger than the longtime college coach.

NFL world reacts to Drew Brees breaking Peyton Manning's all-time TD record

NFL world reacts to Drew Brees breaking Peyton Manning's all-time TD record Brees made (more) history Monday night, and the football world reacted. With his third touchdown pass on Monday night against the Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees became the NFL’s all-time touchdown king. Breaking Peyton Manning’s all-time record of 539 touchdown passes, Brees reached 540 with a five-yard strike to Josh Hill in the third quarter.

Meyer's inexperience in the NFL could be exposed here, too. He would have to weigh if that's worth the risk given the success he has had at Ohio State. Ron Rivera, who was fired by the Panthers this season and has Super Bowl experience, would a better hire for Cleveland.

Breaking down what must change in Cleveland

Urban Meyer to the Redskins

  • Pros

Meyer would get a chance to continue working with franchise quarterback Dwayne Haskins, who showed improvement down the stretch for a down-trodden team this season. Terry McLaurin, another rookie standout from Ohio State, is one of Meyer's all-time favorite Buckeyes.

In Washington, Meyer would not face the pressure to win right away like he would in Dallas. He would not face the burden of changing the course of home-town Cleveland. Any success or failure in Washington would come at a low cost to Meyer's legacy. Steve Spurrier failed in D.C. after two seasons, but he went on to coach at South Carolina afterward.

If Meyer were to take this job, he also might be able to land Chase Young with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. That's another Beltway Buckeye the home crowd would love.

The Ohio State Redskins might have a chance to be a NFC wild-card team.

  • Cons

Meyer would be working for a franchise that has sifted through seven head coaches and two interim coaches since Dan Snyder took over in 1999. That includes big NFL names (Marty Schottenheimer, Mike Shanahan), big Redskins names (Joe Gibbs) and Spurrier. Washington has literally tried everything, and none of it has worked.

Cowboys rout Redskins but miss playoffs due to Eagles' win

Cowboys rout Redskins but miss playoffs due to Eagles' win Dallas beat Washington 47-16 on Sunday, a win rendered meaningless when the Cowboys were eliminated from the playoffs by Philadelphia's victory over the New York Giants. The Cowboys (8-8) lost control of their playoff fate with a 17-9 loss at the Eagles last week. Last season's NFC East champions will now wait to see how much longer Jason Garrett will be coach after underachieving in the final year of his contract.BOX SCORE: COWBOYS 47, REDSKINS 16Dallas could have made the playoffs without a winning record for the third time in franchise history.

Spurrier tried to win at Washington with former Florida players, and the plan failedl he had a 12-20 record after two seasons. Meyer might not be treated with as much patience from the Redskins as he would from the Cowboys or the Browns given Washington's track record. The Redskins also have the least amount cap space of the three heading into 2020.

Where should Urban Meyer go?

Cross Washington off the list first. Aside from the ties to Haskins, it's not the right fit for Meyer. He would be better off staying in the Fox studio.

The other two jobs are much more intriguing.

It really comes down to Dallas (the best fit) and Cleveland (the sentimental fit). Of those two, the Cowboys present the better job for Meyer. Jones made it work with past college coaches, and his organization has proven it can get closer to a Super Bowl than Cleveland can. At this point, the Browns would just be happy with a winning season.

That sentimental factor pulled Meyer back to Columbus, but would Cleveland be able to pull him back one more time for a much more difficult job? The Browns can make an interesting pitch, but it wouldn't be better than the one the Cowboys have if Jones wants Meyer.

Here is the biggest difference: The Cowboys haven't won a Super Bowl since 1995. The Browns won their last playoff game the season before that. Does Meyer want to break a playoff drought in Cleveland or a Super Bowl drought in Dallas?

Those who have followed his college career know Cleveland might seem like Plan A. But the right answer is Big D.

Report: McCarthy had ‘impressive’ interview with Cowboys .
The Dallas Cowboys are searching for a new head coach after finally announcing the decision to move on from Jason Garrett. Mike McCarthy might just be the guy to replace him. McCarthy’s interview with the Cowboys went so well that the coach stayed an extra day in Dallas, per Jay Glazer of Fox Sports Sunday morning. Following up on that, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News shared Sunday evening that his sources called McCarthy’s interview with the Cowboys “impressive.”It shouldn’t be surprising that a coach with a Super Bowl win to his name was impressive.
