Peter Philip Laviolette Jr. (born December 7, 1964) is an American professional ice hockey head coach for the Washington Capitals and former player.

The Nashville Predators fired head coach Peter Laviolette and assistant coach Kevin McCarthy on Monday, with the team outside the playoff picture after 41 games. No interim coach or new head coach was immediately named. The Predators face the Boston Bruins at home Tuesday night.

On behalf of the entire organization, I would like to thank Peter and Kevin for all their contributions to the Nashville Predators over the past five-and-a-half seasons.”

Laviolette had been the Predators head coach since 2014-15 season and compiled a 451-248-143 record in Nashville, which included a run to the 2017 Stanley Cup Final.

The Predators (19-15-7) currently sit in second-to-last place in the Central Division midway through the current season.
