Dwight Howard goes Superman, honors Kobe at dunk contest

Dwight Howard goes Superman, honors Kobe at dunk contest Dwight Howard kept us waiting. Hours before his participation in Saturday night’s NBA dunk contest, he wouldn’t reveal whether Superman would be “in the building.” He wouldn’t reveal whether a Kobe Bryant tribute was in the works. On his second dunk of the first round, Howard stripped off his jersey to reveal a Superman outfit. Then he ripped open the Superman top to reveal a second Superman logo – but this one with a No. 24 on top of it. Dwight put the cape back on! ???? #ATTSlamDunkpic.twitter.com/78kdtBmWTQ— NBA on TNT (@NBAonTNT) February 16, 2020The dunk itself was pedestrian. Howard, though, earned a 49 from the judges on sentimentality alone.

Carter's awe-inspiring jam took place during the legendary 2000 Slam Dunk contest. The Atlanta Hawks forward's performance is widely regarded as one of the greatest in the competition's history, alongside Jordan and Dominique Wilkins' athletic displays during their famous battle in the 1988 dunk contest.

Braves' Freeman used painkillers to play through 2019 elbow injury .
Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman put himself through a lot to stay on the field in 2019, including playing through a late-season elbow injury that required offseason surgery. Freeman had two bone spurs and three fragments removed from his right elbow in October. He admitted the elbow caused him so much pain toward the end of last season that he needed a cortisone shot and was taking two painkillers (an undisclosed drug given to him by Braves head trainer George Poulis) before almost every game for six weeks. "If I wasn't taking the really hard pain pills, I was taking as many extra strength Tylenols as I could," he told Jeff Schultz of The Athletic.
