Smokescreen? Report says Dolphins might not prefer Tua Tagovailoa at No. 5 Your annual reminder: Any NFL draft news you hear between now and April 23 needs to be examined closely and consumed with a healthy dose of skepticism. The Dolphins have been linked to Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for most of the past year. Do Miami Dolphins prefer Justin Herbert? Veteran Herald columnist Armando Salguero wrote a column with the headline: “Miami Dolphins’ current view of Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert might surprise you.”In the column, Salguero writes that “the club’s view of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is not of a slam-dunk pick near the top the draft.

The former Alabama signal-caller reportedly left his visit feeling uncertain about whether the Dolphins want him to be their franchise quarterback, and the 2018 Heisman runner-up is questioning the club's interest.

"No one was excited," the source said. "They didn't give any indication of 'he's their guy.' He felt weird, like is this a joke? He's not turned off, but it was just weird."

The Dolphins have reportedly been coveting Tagovailoa since last year when they decided to shed veteran talent and begin stockpiling 2020 draft picks.

Player reps not voting on NFL labor deal; more talks Tuesday

Player reps not voting on NFL labor deal; more talks Tuesday NEW YORK (AP) NFL player representatives decided Friday to not vote on a new labor deal approved by team owners, and the union instead will meet with league negotiators at the scouting combine in Indianapolis on Tuesday. Earlier Friday, the union's executive committee voted 6-5 to recommend rejecting the terms of the new collective bargaining agreement that NFL owners approved Thursday.Initially, the league hoped the players would rapidly match their acceptance of the negotiated terms. That did not happen, though the player reps and the full union membership could vote next week.

Tagovailoa's stock fell slightly after he dislocated his hip during Alabama's season, but the 21-year-old is expected to be cleared in early March and be ready for the NFL campaign. He's projected as an early first-round pick.

Many other prospects and agents have had similar experiences during their combine meetings with the Dolphins, according to Deen.

Miami owns the fifth, 18th, and 26th overall picks in the draft.
