Four-star quarterback Sawyer Robertson, of Coronado High School in Lubbock, Texas, committed to Mike Leach and the Bulldogs via Twitter on Tuesday evening. Robertson is the No. 9 pro-style quarterback in the class of 2021, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Robertson stated in his tweet that he will also play baseball for head coach Chris Lemonis. 

"A special thanks to Coach Leach and Coach Lemonis and the entire football and baseball staffs at Mississippi State for believing in me and giving me this opportunity," Robertson wrote in the tweet. 

Leach offered Robertson a scholarship on Jan. 20, just over a week after he became the Bulldogs' head coach. Robertson, ranked the No. 51 overall prospect in his class by ESPN, visited Mississippi State's campus on March 2.

Robertson told Paul Jones of 247Sports that Leach was like a "legend" to him while growing up in Lubbock. Leach, of course, was the head coach at Texas Tech from 2000-09.

Leach led five different Texas Tech quarterbacks to seasons of 4,000 passing yards or more. No Mississippi State quarterback has ever reached that mark.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott holds the program record with 3,793 during his senior season in 2015.

Robertson put together back-to-back seasons of 3,500-plus passing yards during his sophomore and junior seasons at Coronado. Last season, Robertson completed 257-of-405 passes (63.5%) for 326.2 yards per game and 44 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He has 88 touchdowns and 15 interceptions heading into his senior season. 

In high school baseball, Prep Baseball Report ranked Robertson the No. 2 outfielder in the state of Texas in his class. 

The 6-foot-4, 205-pound righty missed his sophomore season because of an injury and had his junior campaign cut short because of the coronavirus. He had seven hits, nine runs batted in and scored nine runs of his own in the final six games of the season, though.
