Commission stops UFC 249 from happening in New York

Commission stops UFC 249 from happening in New York Khabib Nurmagomedov-Tony Ferguson won't be happening in its original location. The New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) said Wednesday that the coronavirus pandemic will stop UFC 249 from taking place as scheduled in Brooklyn on April 18. "Out of an abundance of caution and in line with recent guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and New York State, the New York State Athletic Commission informed the UFC that UFC 249 cannot be held in New York," the commission wrote in a statement sent to The New York Times.

And here’s the thing – he should’t leave Russia or anywhere to go fight anyone right now because we’re going through a very serious global pandemic where safety and intelligence needs to come first.

Those two things are apparently not on the top of Dana White’s list of ways to act because he continues to push forward and is trying to make an event that nobody really needs to see right now and that fighters don’t need to put themselves in danger by preparing for them right now.

Why Dana White is hellbent on staging UFC 249 amid coronavirus pandemic

Why Dana White is hellbent on staging UFC 249 amid coronavirus pandemic UFC president Dana White understands that he infuriates and scares some people by just saying he is trying to stage a major fight night on April 18. Hate him for it.He understands that some, maybe even the majority, think he should just sit in his Las Vegas mansion and wait this out. He gets that some, maybe even the majority, believe that staging a mixed martial arts card, even one with no fans in attendance and under, as he promises, the strictest possible safety measures, is an absurd and insulting act during a global pandemic.

The entire sports world is on hold right now and it sucks, but it’s the right thing to do.

Nurmagomedov on Wednesday shared a really smart message about his situation and the world’s situation right now:

Staying home in quarantine and reading the reaction of people to the situation around my fight, it turns out that the whole world should be in quarantine, governments of all countries, famous people around the world urge people to follow all safety requirements in order to limit the spread of the disease, to save people, and Khabib is the only one relieved of all obligations and must demonstrate free will and train flying around the world, for the sake of fight? – I understand everything and I’m definitely upset more than you to cancel the fight, probably like all others, I had many plans after the fight, but I can’t control it all.

MMA world reacts to likely cancellation of Khabib-Ferguson It appears MMA fans will have to wait even longer to see UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov square off with Tony Ferguson. The UFC 249 main event is now in limbo, as Nurmagomedov is finishing up his training camp in Russia and may not be able to leave the country due to travel restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic. Nurmagomedov-Ferguson is one of the most anticipated bouts in UFC history, as it's been called off four timesThe UFC 249 main event is now in limbo, as Nurmagomedov is finishing up his training camp in Russia and may not be able to leave the country due to travel restrictions amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The greatest countries and the largest companies of our time are shocked by what is happening, every day the situation changes unpredictably.

But Khabib still has to fight, is that what you saying? –

Take care of yourself and put yourself in my shoes.

Like I said before, this whole thing SUCKS with all the capital letters. I want to see Khabib and Ferguson fight just as much as all UFC fans wants to see them fight – we’ve been waiting for this one for A LONG TIME.

But right now the UFC needs to act like everyone else and just shut it down. Also, maybe throw some money to the fighters so they don’t feel like they have to fight in a pandemic to make money.

You are a $4 billion dollar company, UFC.

The building is on fire and major players are in the lobby arguing over who is the toughest guy in the world while bonehead fans are showing their idiot cards on Twitter. White put on an event a few weeks ago in Brazil with no crowd during the first major weekend of this pandemic. The ratings stunk and the broadcast felt off, as more pressing matters have been at hand for all of us. And that was before things have really gotten serious in our country.
