Tina Müller: Douglas boss is out indefinitely - management level has to rearrange itself
© Dominik Asbach / laif The Douglas boss had already had a hard time moving back to her home office. After an emergency operation, Tina Müller has to go to rehab. The promotion of digital boss Vanessa Stützle to the management is preferred - in a delicate phase. The message hit the company unexpectedly.
There was a time when the designs by Fien Muller and Hannes Van Severen were virtually omnipresent. This may only apply to the small world of furniture and interior design, but the three-dimensional line drawings of the couple simply belong to the look of the 2010s. There is hardly a modern decorator who would not have liked to integrate the table-armchair-shelf combinations in the form of minimalist linkages into his work as a prestige object.
The artist couple, who live and work in Evergem near Gent, have been running theirsince 2011. From the beginning, Muller and Van Severen have been working on the border between furniture design and sculpture - always experimentally, but without compromising on functionality. At the design fair in Brussels, the duo presented their new collection "Alltubes" at the beginning of March. A series with cupboards, a bench and a chair made of round aluminum tubes. The commonality of the pieces consists in a striking repetition: without putting on or taking off, the aluminum pipe lies against the aluminum pipe and creates a wavy, light-reflecting surface. The legs, backrest and seat of the chair form from a continuous movement with occasional curves or folds; Without visible handles, hinges or rivets, the cupboards become geometric shapes in the room. Functional and sculptural, there is no question that the designers remain true to themselves with “Alltubes”. And before the collection finds its way into all the interiors of the 2020s, the pieces will hopefully take their place of honor in the large Muller Van Severen exhibition at Villa Cavrois near Lille, the world capital of design 2020.
