Alex Dupont is gone!

According to La Voix du Nord, the former coach of Dunkirk, Alex Dupont, died this Saturday morning of a heart attack. French football has just lost a coach who left his mark in the world of football. It was he who led Gueugnon, a second division club, during the League Cup coronation in 2000, against PSG of Laurent Robert and Ali Benarbia (2-0).
Didier Neumann, FC Gueugnon right midfielder in 2000:
“ The last time I was able to talk with Alex, it was during a videoconference with the entire FC Gueugnon team who won the Coupe de la Ligue. It was April 22, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our victory. It was an opportunity to hear from each other, to remember the highlights of our season which had been exceptional in every way. Alex, he was the first coach who really trusted me in the professional world. I arrived on loan from FC Metz, my training club where I had not won, and I immediately adhered to his philosophy of play, his way of approaching football. He was himself and could laugh, mess around with his players in the locker room, knowing how to be very professional and uncompromising in what he asked of players on the pitch during practices or games. And although we didn’t call each other after he left, as soon as we got together, it was like we had parted the day before. The “automatisms” were coming back ... I don't know if this marked the friends but I remember our pre-season training camp which took place in Samoëns. We were preparing for a tactical work "empty" (without opposition) with its famous "two lines of four" and, just after naming the first two lines of players (4 defenders and 4 midfielders) to that they position themselves on the ground, Alex and his staff released us ropes that we had to hold at arm's length and which delimited the distance that there had to be between each player. Alex was "playing" the role of the ball and depending on where he was on the pitch he expected some kind of movement from us. It got us a few laughs, but it's that type of exercise that has allowed us to have this magical season. "
Alex Verdugo Opens Up About Decision To Kneel During National Anthem
The Boston Red Sox are two games deep into their 60-game schedule, and so far, Alex Verdugo and Jackie Bradley… Read More »The two outfielders are among a handful of players to kneel in protest over racial injustice and police brutality in the United States as protests surrounding the issue enter their third month. Major League Baseball’s 2020 season was on hold when the international protests began shortly after George Floyd’s May 25 death in Minneapolis, but players like Verdugo and Bradley have made sure to keep the message alive as teams resume play two months later.
Richard Trivino, FC Gueugnon goalkeeper in 2000:
" We've all been on the ass since this morning. We were to celebrate the 20 years of the League Cup victory and the 80 years of the club this year, but it was postponed because of the Covid. I'm sure we'll do it later, but unfortunately it will be without Alex. In Gueugnon, our strength was the collective, because apart from Sylvain (Distin) who had the very high level, we all or almost our 300 matches in Ligue 2 in the legs. Alex Dupont is a name of FC Gueugnon. Me, the anecdote that will always stay in my mind, is the day he returned from the Dunkirk carnival with his face all scratched. He told us he fell into a bush but hey, we didn't believe it (Laughs). It struck me because I was young, and when you see your coach come back to this state ... He was friends with the old guys and tough, for our good, with us young people. In the end, he will be the only coach to have beaten PSG in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue. I have a big thought for his wife and his family. "
PSG-Lyon: how to say goodbye
© Provided by Sofoot Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique Lyonnais meet on Friday evening, in a Stade de France which will still ring hollow, for the last final in the history of the League Cup. A special evening that looks above all like a dress rehearsal for the two teams before their European meetings in August.
Xavier Collin, entered in the 85th minute during the FC Gueugnon-PSG final in 2000:
" I remember a trainer who always had the a word for laughs despite its permanent demand. He had a precise playing pattern and he knew where he wanted to go. He was someone close to the players, who did not hesitate to communicate and share his good humor. When I come into play in the Coupe de la Ligue final, there are only a few minutes left. He puts me in a role that is not mine but he tells me to bring my determination, my grinta. We were dominated, but after the second goal, we saw that it contained an intense joy, that generated by the feat. The words he said to me before I came in will forever be etched in my memory. "
Éric Boniface, defender at FC Gueugnon in 2000:
" He allowed me to win the Coupe de la Ligue, a very important trophy for me. He was a bon vivant, who unfortunately left too quickly. I remember once during a training course in Samoëns, we saw him arrive with moccasins and a tracksuit. We exploded into laughter, it wasn't him! As we were a great group, we usually had a drink for birthdays or a little beer after practice and Alex was always with us. Today the group is sad. We didn't expect it at all. He was a good coach, and above all a good person. »
