Damian Lillard, Trail Blazers strike first in bubble playoff race with critical OT win over Grizzlies Damian Lillard and the Portland Trail Blazers struck first on Friday as they tipped off their bubble season with one of the highest-stakes matchups at Disney World. The Trail Blazers fought off a big second half from Ja Morant and leaned on their three big scorers to pull out a critical overtime win over the Memphis Grizzlies. The win also moves them a half game ahead of the Sacramento Kings and a full game ahead of the New Orleans Pelicans and San Antonio Spurs as six teams remain alive for the final playoff spot.In short, the Blazers needed this one. And they got it thanks to big performances from Lillard, CJ McCollum and Carmelo Anthony.

After scoring 112 points combined over his two previous games, the Portland Trail Blazers star followed with another 42 and the biggest defensive play of the night in a do-or-die 134-133 win over the Brooklyn Nets. The victory sends the Blazers to a play-in series as the eighth seed in the Western Conference.

The Trail Blazers clinched their fifth consecutive playoff appearance on Sunday, but now turn to loftier goals Both Lillard and CJ McCollum said they are in favor of getting some rest before the playoffs start Win and they’re 2.5 games out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference .

Damian Lillard goes off for a career-high 61 points against the Golden State Warriors, breaking his own Portland Trail Blazers record he set earlier in the 2019-20 NBA regular season (60 vs. Brooklyn Nets ).

Portland will face the Memphis Grizzlies with the NBA’s final playoff spot on the line on Saturday, needing one win in two tries to advance to play the top-seeded Los Angeles Lakers in the first round on Tuesday. Had the Blazers lost to the Nets, the Phoenix Suns would have faced the Grizzlies in the play-in series.

And it nearly happened.

Portland survived by the slimmest of margins. Caris LeVert’s 37 points willed Brooklyn into a meaningless game against a desperate team, but his 23-foot game-winning attempt fell just short in the final seconds.
