Dodgers reliever Caleb Ferguson to undergo Tommy John surgery

Dodgers reliever Caleb Ferguson to undergo Tommy John surgery It’s a costly blow for the World Series-contending Dodgers’ superb bullpen, which saw Ferguson amass 18 1/3 innings of 2.89 ERA/3.56 FIP pitching with 13.02 K/9 and 1.45 BB/9 this year. Fortunately for Los Angeles, it seems to have enough quality arms in its relief corps to make do without Ferguson. But the team will also have to do the same next year, as Tommy John surgery typically requires a 12- to 18-month recovery. That means Ferguson, now 24 years old, probably won’t take a major league mound again until 2022.Subscribe to Yardbarker's Morning Bark, the most comprehensive newsletter in sports.

The New York Yankees are destroying the baseball in their three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees hit six home runs in a 20-6 victory on Tuesday, seven home runs in a 13-2 win on Wednesday, and they currently have six home runs on Thursday night. That’s 19 home runs over the three-game series, and that’s an MLB record. The Yankees are also the first team to hit at least six homers in three straight games.

And Gleyber Torres made it back-to-back dingers when he crushed this blast:

The sixth homer of the night came on this Gary Sanchez dinger in the seventh inning:

The Yankees were a disappointing 21-21 a week ago (with injuries playing a big part in that), but a victory on Thursday night would give them an eight-game winning streak. This lineup is terrifying, and they’re getting hot at the right time with the postseason right around the corner.

Padres concerned Mike Clevinger could miss playoffs with injury? .
The Padres believe that Clevinger is dealing with a muscle strain or tendinitis. While neither is a worst-case scenario, it could be serious enough to keep Clevinger out for some or all of the playoffs. The National League playoffs are slated to open on Sept. 30. It seems like a long shot that Clevinger will be ready by then. After that, it could come down to how long the Padres can stay alive without him.Clevinger was the Padres’ big trade acquisition at the end of August. He’d won two of his three starts for the team coming into the day Wednesday, but it sounds like he might not pitch again in 2020.
