GENEVA (AP) — The governing body of South American soccer said Thursday it got assurances from FIFA that European clubs will have to release all players for national team duty when the region's World Cup qualifying starts in October. With FIFA 21 EA SPORTS welcomes eleven new icons on the virtual pitch, including the two Germans Bastian Schweinsteiger and Philipp Lahm. The developer has now revealed what values the duo and the other fresh legends have.
91 points, both Schweinsteiger and Lahm get this overall rating in their best-rated icon version. This value makes them absolute top players in FIFA 21. However, they cannot come close to the strongest icons, Lahm, for example, is only third-best with 91 points Right-backs behind Carlos Alberto and Javier Zanetti. In his prime version, the world champion captain from 2014 convinces with a 90s defense as the best value. The 87 pace is also strong, but 73 points for the physique illustrate his blatant weakness, physically he will not be able to keep up with many offensive players. The middle version of Lahm has 89 points as an overall rating and is positioned in the central defensive midfield, the basic icon pushes him to the left defensive side and scores 87 points.
Infantino: FIFA Club World Cup unlikely to happen this year
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport report Tampa Bay Buccaneers Chris Godwin doubtful in Week 2 and Mike Evans expected to be closer to 100%.
Suitable for the midfield, Schweinsteiger's Prime Icon card shows the qualities of an outstanding all-rounder: With the exception of his speed (76), all six basic values are set at 86 or higher, so he can find a place in one or the other team. At the competitive level, however, he will probably hardly get any playing time, since Ruud Gullit, Patrick Vieira or Lothar Matthäus are simply better. The middle version by Schweinsteiger still has an overall score of 89, while the basic version has 87 points. However, the card describing the beginning of his career puts him in the left midfield.
Puskas as number one among the new
The nine other new icons are Eric Cantona, Petr Cech, Ashley Cole, Samuel Eto'o, Ferenc Puskas, Davor Suker, Fernando Torres, Nemanja Vidic and Xavi. Puskas got the best overall score among them, the Hungarian got 94 points in the Prime version. He also brings a useful combination of values for a top striker in FIFA with 91 pace, 96 shot and 92 dribbling. The situation is similar with Eto'o: The greatest strength of the 92-point Cameroonian is his enormous speed (95).
Cantona's Prime version is rated with 93 points. Xavi also has 93 points, Cech and Torres 91, Suker and Vidic 90. With 89 points, Cole is the only newcomer not to make it into the 90s.
