Nobody predicted either of the last two MVP campaigns. With that in mind, who are the dark-horse candidates for the NFL 's most prestigious individual Which well-positioned players are we not considering right now, but should be? Here are my dark-horse candidates for the 2020 MVP award

The 2020 NFL Season is getting closer and closer by the day And as the anticipation builds, it's time to make my predictions for who's going to finish

We are now two full weeks through the 2020 NFL season. There’s been some brutal quarterback play in those first two weeks. However, there’s also been some standout signal-callers making major noise.

Typically, this is the position that dominates the NFL MVP race. We’ve seen it at a near never-ending clip in recent years. In fact, each of the past seven NFL MVP awards have gone to quarterbacks. The last non-quarterback to win the award was Adrian Peterson back in 2012.

NFL MVP Odds and Predictions. Odds via SportsBettingDime.com. Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore (-5000; bet ,000 to win 0). By Week 17, Wilson was down his top three running backs and a pair of tight ends, and he still almost led his team to a victory at CenturyLink Field.

Heading into Week 3, we check in on the top NFL MVP candidates of 2020 with an obvious name at the top.

Top candidates

  • Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks: The Super Bowl quarterback is now the Vegas favorite to come away with the award after he compiled a resounding nine passing touchdowns over the course of the first two games of the season. Wilson is also completing 82.5 percent of his passes and has Seattle averaging 36.5 points per game. He seems to be a safe bet right now.
  • Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals: This second-year quarterback has joined Wilson in the MVP conversation through two weeks. After destroying a top-ranked 49ers defense in Week 1, Murray dominated the Washington Football Team last week. Working with an elite receiver trio in that of DeAndre Hopkins, Larry Fitzgerald and Christian Kirk, Murray has accounted for nearly 700 total yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions.
  • Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys: Prescott’s ability to lead the Cowboys back from a 15-point deficit late in Week 2’s game against the Atlanta Falcons definitely put him on the radar. All said, the quarterback tallied 468 total yards and four touchdowns in the game. He’s put up 764 total yards with five touchdowns in two games.

Past two winners have a shot at the 2020 NFL MVP

  • Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens: This former first-round pick won the award as a sophomore last season. Jackson has also picked up where he left off last year. The dual-threat quarterback has accounted for four touchdowns and zero picks while putting up nearly 600 total yards in two games. He also has Baltimore averaging a whopping 35.5 points per game.
  • Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs: Despite some early struggles Week 2 against the Chargers, Mahomes is still out here playing at a high level after earning the Super Bowl MVP back in February. The 2018 NFL MVP has accounted for five passing touchdowns and zero interceptions, posting a 104.0 quarterback rating in the process.

Under-the-radar candidates

a baseball player wearing a helmet: Josh Allen's Bills look unstoppable this season as they sit atop the AFC East. © Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports Josh Allen's Bills look unstoppable this season as they sit atop the AFC East.
  • Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills: The progression we’ve seen from Allen since the Bills made him a top-seven pick in 2018 has been nothing short of extraordinary. Here’s a guy who has put up north of 800 total yards with seven touchdowns and zero interceptions. He boasts a 122.9 quarterback rating, has the Bills undefeated through two weeks and is leading the sixth-ranked scoring offense in the NFL. Just amazing.
  • Aaron Jones, Green Bay Packers: The first (and only) non-quarterback on this list, Jones continues to dominate opposing defenses. The former fifth-round pick led NFL running backs with 19 touchdowns a season ago. Through two games this year, Jones has tallied a league-best 312 total yards while topping NFL backs with four touchdowns and averaging a whopping 7.4 yards per touch. You can do the math.

When will the 2020 NFL MVP be announced?

Typically, the NFL MVP is announced at an awards show the day before the Super Bowl. We have no idea if that’s going to be the case due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Chark was uncharacteristically quiet in the Jaguars’ season opener against the Colts, though he did score the team’s first touchdown of 2020. Last week, he managed 84 yards off of just four catches, giving him seven grabs for 109 yards and one touchdown through two games. A second-round pick in 2018, Chark enjoyed a breakout season last year.

Already the most unstoppable tight-end force the NFL has ever seen, Gronkowski is simply too big, too strong and too dynamic for any one defender to handle. Not an MVP candidate :Tony Romo. This article has been reproduced in a new format and may be missing content or contain faulty links.

Patrick Mahomes has very high praise for Cam Newton .
Newton is nowhere near as good of a player as Mahomes at this point in their respective careers, but he’s a different type of player. Mahomes keeps plays alive with his feet, but he’s arguably the best passer in the NFL. Newton still makes numerous plays with his legs and is far more physical than Mahomes. We’d say the Chiefs have their work cut out for them against Newton and the Patriots, but we all saw what Mahomes just did to the Ravens. Jackson made a tough admission about his AFC foe after that game, and it will be interesting to see how Newton feels following his showdown with Mahomes and company.
