Vikings plan to sign veteran safety George Iloka to practice squad

Vikings plan to sign veteran safety George Iloka to practice squad Iloka offers years of NFL experience, including three seasons under Mike Zimmer‘s tutelage. Iloka hasn’t seen live action since his 2018 season with the Vikings. In that season, Iloka appeared in all 16 games while starting in three. He’s best known for his time with the Bengals, where he played for six years and served as a starter for five. During his run with the Bengals, the Boise State product registered nine interceptions and made 446 tackles. In other Vikings news, the club has restructured the contract of Eric Kendricks to free up millions in cap space.

The Vikings have agreed to sign linebacker Todd Davis, according to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero (on Twitter). Financial terms of the deal are not yet known, but it’ll be a one-year pact for Davis and the Vikes.

Davis stood as one of the Broncos’ longest-tenured players up until his release in early September. The Broncos opted for extra cap space over the veteran, but he was still productive in 2019. Last year, he notched a career-high 134 tackles, tying him for eighth on the NFL leaderboard.

Cardinals haven't discussed extension for Chandler Jones?

Cardinals haven't discussed extension for Chandler Jones? The Cardinals have made no effort to rework Chandler Jones‘ deal, despite Jones’ continued excellence both on and off the field. Jones is under contract through the 2021 season, but rival execs still believe it’s unusual that the Cardinals have not at least explored an extension. After all, Jones has been arguably the league’s best pass-rusher since Arizona acquired him from the Patriots in March 2016, and the 60 sacks that he posted from 2016 to '19 are eight more than anyone else in the league during that span. The extension he signed in March 2017 will pay him a $16M salary this year and a $15.

Interestingly, Davis has largely been off the radar since he was released by Denver three weeks ago. His former head coach Gary Kubiak – who now serves as the Vikings’ offensive coordinator – will be happy to welcome him to Minnesota.

The Vikings could use an experienced player like Davis, particularly in the wake of Anthony Barr‘s season-ending pectoral injury. Despite all of their defensive talent, the Vikings are 0-2 after opening the year with losses to the Packers and Colts. It won’t get any easier this week, as they take on the 2-0 Titans on Sunday afternoon.

Fire Mike Zimmer? It’s too early for Vikings to panic .
You can bet head coach Mike Zimmer is having a tougher time sleeping with his team sitting at 0-2. Hopefully after the upcoming Titans showdown, fans will have a football team they will be proud to root for in Minnesota again. Otherwise, it’s going to be a really long season in the Twin Cities.Subscribe to Yardbarker's Morning Bark, the most comprehensive newsletter in sports.
