Watch: Highly touted LSU LB Jabril Cox with pick-six in Tigers debut LSU LB Jabril Cox made a great defensive play against Mississippi State early on in Saturday's contest.Despite this, LSU was a heavy favorite heading into Saturday’s outing against new Bulldogs head coach Mike Leach and Co. That’s primarily because of a still-stingy defense led by top transfer, linebacker Jabril Cox.

Newly elected Governor John Bel Edwards went on TV last night, and dropped the one bomb that’ s Sure, this is a pretty transparent case of political saber-rattling, but you can’t blame Edwards for As it stands now, Louisiana is well and truly fucked, and if getting a few angry Tigers fans to call their

LSU was thoroughly handled in its season-opening loss to Mississippi State on Saturday.

The sixth-ranked, defending national champion Tigers had no answer for Mike Leach's "Air Raid" attack in the 44-34 defeat. Bulldogs quarterback K.J. Costello completed 36 of 60 passes for 623 yards and five touchdowns, and three Mississippi State players had more than 100 receiving yards.

Of course, the loss of 14 players from LSU's 2019 team to the NFL Draft, Biletnikoff winner Ja'Marr Chase's decision to opt out and Derek Stingley Jr.'s illness certainly didn't help the Tigers' chances.

Florida, Miami (Fla.) surge ahead, while Oklahoma, LSU tumble in Amway Coaches Poll Florida moves into the No. 3 spot and Miami joined the top 10 of the Amway Coaches Poll, while Oklahoma and LSU tumbled after shocking losses. The changes didn’t reach the top, however, as Clemson easily retains the No. 1 ranking. The Tigers, who had the week off, received 42 of 48 first-place votes. No. 2 Alabama also held its spots. The Crimson Tide opened with an impressive win at Missouri and claimed four first-place nods this week.

The 1973 LSU Tigers football team represented Louisiana State University ( LSU ) during the 1973 NCAA Division I football season. Under head coach Charles McClendon, the Tigers had a record of 9–3 with a Southeastern Conference record of 5–1.

None of that seemed to matter to Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, however. Instead, the Republican (who's up for reelection in 2023) attempted to take a cheap shot at Democratic Gov. John Bel Edwards, blaming him for the loss because he didn't allow fans to fill "LSU Stadium."

Edwards announced Sept. 9 that attendance at Tiger Stadium — not "LSU Stadium" — would be limited to 25 percent of capacity amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This plan focuses on the health and safety of all those attending LSU football games, from the fans to the team to the workers," Edwards said (via Baton Rouge TV station WAFB). "By reducing the capacity and taking a year off from tailgating, which puts LSU in line with other SEC schools, the plan allows for fans to be socially distanced in Death Valley."

Per data from The New York Times, Louisiana had 165,152 confirmed cases of the coronavirus as of Friday — 11th-most of any state in the U.S. — and 5,444 deaths. Even if those numbers weren't enough to convince Landry that it's better to be safe than sorry regarding the virus perhaps the fact he tested positive for it in July would be. He was asymptomatic.

Landry, who received his law degree from Loyola University New Orleans, rightly drew criticism for his asinine tweet.

Perhaps Landry should keep his politics out of football in the future.
