From Russell Wilson and young quarterback Josh Allen to players at positions who don’t normally merit NFL MVP consideration, we check on that race heading into Week 4. Will a non-quarterback win the award for the first time since Adrian Peterson back in 2012? Let’s look at this and more below.

Winners and losers from Seahawks’ thrilling win over Patriots

Winners and losers from Seahawks’ thrilling win over Patriots Russell Wilson's five touchdown passes lifted the Seahawks over the Patriots on Sunday night, but there were things to like and dislike on both sides of the field. As for Wilson and his Seattle Seahawks, last week’s blowout win over the Atlanta Falcons proved to be no fluke. Wilson is clicking big time. He talled five touchdown passes in Sunday night’s thrilling 35-30 win over New England that culminated in a goal-line stop by Seattle’s defense.

2020 NFL MVP: Who are the front runners?

  • Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks: The Super Bowl quarterback is now the Vegas favorite to come away with the award after he compiled a resounding 14 passing touchdowns to go with north of 1,000 total yards over the first three games of the season. Wilson is also completing 77% of his passes and has Seattle averaging 37 points per game. He seems to be a safe bet right now.
  • Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills: The progression we’ve seen from Allen since the Bills made him a top-seven pick back in 2018 has been nothing short of extraordinary. Here’s a guy who has put up north of 1,100 total yards with 12 touchdowns and one interception in three games. He boasts a tremendous 124.8 quarterback rating, has the Bills undefeated through three weeks and is leading the fourth-ranked scoring offense in the NFL. Just amazing
  • Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers: What this dude continues to do is just amazing. Rodgers has the Packers at 3-0 on the season and averaging north of 40 points per game. He’s completing 67% of his passes for 887 yards with nine touchdowns and zero interceptions for an absurd 121.1 rating. Rodgers tore apart a good Saints defense in Week 3 without Davante Adams in the mix. He could very well be looking at a third MVP award. So much for that Jordan Love drama.
  • Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys: Prescott’s ability to lead the Cowboys back from a 15-point deficit late in Week 2’s game against the Atlanta Falcons definitely put him on the radar. However, this team must win more games if Prescott is going to have a chance at the hardware. Losing to the Seahawks last week adds to this. Through three games, Prescott has accounted for nearly 1,300 yards to go with eight touchdowns and two interceptions.

Past two winners have a shot at the 2020 NFL MVP

  • Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens: This former first-round pick won the award going away as a sophomore last season. Jackson has also picked up where he left off last year. The dual threat quarterback has accounted for four touchdowns and zero picks while putting up nearly 600 total yards in two games. He also has Baltimore averaging a whopping 35.5 points per game.
  • Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs: Despite some early struggles Week 2 against the Chargers, Mahomes is still out here playing at a high level after earning the Super Bowl MVP back in February. The 2018 NFL MVP has accounted for five passing touchdowns and zero interceptions, posting a 104.0 quarterback rating in the process.

Under-the-radar 2020 NFL MVP candidates

  • Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals: That’s not a typo. This second-year quarterback has joined Wilson and others in the MVP conversation through three weeks. After destroying a top-ranked 49ers defense in Week 1, Murray dominated the Washington Football Team in Week 2. Unfortunately, he takes a step back heading into Week 4 after throwing three interceptions in a loss to the Detroit Lions this past Sunday.
  • Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints: What we saw Kamara do against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3 was nothing short of extraordinary. He was the Saints’ offense, going for 197 total yards and two touchdowns. Through three weeks, the former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year is on pace for 2,336 total yards and 32 touchdowns.
  • DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona Cardinals: Dating back to the inception of the NFL MVP Award in 1957, no wide receiver has won it. While Nuke remains a major long shot, the All-Pro has been absolutely dominating in his first season with the Cardinals. Hopkins is on pace for 171 receptions and nearly 1,900 receiving yards. He will need to get that touchdown total (one) up in order to even be considered.

When will the 2020 NFL MVP be announced?

Typically, the NFL MVP is announced at an awards show the day before the Super Bowl. We have absolutely no idea if that’s going to be the case due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
