Cam Newton is playing like one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and the rest of the league should be ashamed Cam Newton waited all offseason for a team to sign him, and he's making the rest of the league pay for their mistake. The 2015 NFL MVP's time with the Carolina Panthers was done, having not played through the 2019 season due to a foot injury. The year before that, Newton sustained a mid-season shoulder injury that hobbled his performance for the second half of the year.

Quarterback Cam Newton ’s reported contract with the Patriots is a bargain. On Sunday, Newton agreed to a one-year deal with a base of .05 million, the minimum salary for a player with his amount of experience — nine years — in the league. Just 0,000 of that money is guaranteed.

Free-agent quarterback Cam Newton has agreed to a one-year contract with the New England Patriots , ESPN reported on Sunday night citing league sources. The 2015 NFL Most Valuable Player will join the six-time Super Bowl champions on an incentive-laden deal to challenge 2019 fourth-round

Back on July 2, Cam Newton posted a photo of himself working out on Instagram with a captain that read, “This is not about money for me, it’s about respect.” The post came after it was announced he was signing a one-year deal with the Patriots for the league minimum.

Newton’s deal, which has a base salary of $1.05 million, could be worth up to $7.5 million if he hits all his incentives. That base salary, however, ties the Patriots quarterback for 32nd among NFL quarterbacks. It’s less than the payout for backup quarterbacks Nate Sudfeld, Chad Henne, Chase Daniel, Case Keenum, Matt Barkley, Matt Schaub, AJ McCarron, Robert Griffin III and Marcus Mariota.

“Surprisingly but true and factual enough, if I do what I am supposed to do, as I am expecting to, that will not be a topic of discussion here moving forward,” Newton said. “Like I said, you’re talking to a person who — money at this particular point in my career is not important, right? Let’s be honest, I’ve made money. But for everything I play this game for, I haven’t received yet. And that’s why I’m playing. It’s not about money, it’s about respect.

“And especially going back to the negotiating table when this opportunity presented itself, I didn’t want to keep going back-and-forth, this and that. I said, ‘Listen, let’s get the deal done. Let’s do it.’ For all that it’s worth, it’s going to play dividends moving forward. Patriots traveling to Kansas City in two different planes?

Patriots traveling to Kansas City in two different planes? One plane will carry 20 people from the organization that had close contact with Cam Newton, who tested positive for the coronavirus on Saturday morning. The other plane will have the rest of the players and traveling party. Monday night’s game is contingent upon both the Patriots and Chiefs being cleared of any additional positive COVID-19 tests on Monday morning. However, the Patriots are obviously playing it safe due to the incubation period of the virus and the fact that a player or staff member who tests positive on Monday could still produce a positive test later in the week.

Following nine seasons in Carolina, Newton made over $121,000,000 in his career before coming to New England. He accepted the deal he did with the Patriots, in part, because it was late June and the only offer on the table after a tough offseason where he saw other quarterbacks cash in bigger deals than him. Teddy Bridgewater, Phillip Rivers, Keenum, Mariota, Daniel, Jeff Driskel, Andy Dalton and Colt McCoy all signed for deals worth more than the league minimum.

Heading into Week 3 against Las Vegas, Newton ranks tied for first in the NFL in rushing touchdowns (four), third in the NFL in passing yards (552) and seventh in pass completion percentage (71.4%). Newton’s career-best completion percentage is 67.9 in 2018.

If Newton continues this pace, he’ll certainly enter the offseason as one of the best quarterbacks who could reach the open market. For comparison, the Tennessee Titans' Ryan Tannehill signed a four-year, $118 million contract extension in the offseason. That came after Tannehill was named the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year. If Newton keeps up this pace, he’ll certainly be a leader for that award and a big contract.

Cam Newton not concerned with modest New England Patriots contract

Cam Newton not concerned with modest New England Patriots contract Cam Newton ranks last among NFL starting quarterbacks in salary, but the Patriots standout says he's not focused on that amid his resurgence.Newton’s deal, which has a base salary of $1.05 million, could be worth up to $7.5 million if he hits all his incentives. As with the Hall of Fame WR, New England has again used a modest contract to land a superstar motivated to get his career back on track. Domonique Foxworth, Damien Woody and Mike Greenberg don't see Cam Newton 's outgoing personality being a problem for the Patriots .

New England 's new QB ran wild in Week 1, but coordinator Josh McDaniels hints game plans could vary greatly, starting on Sunday in Seattle. Dan Orlovsky asserts that Cam Newton cannot sustain a high number of rushing attempts and adds that New England needs to get more explosive on offense.

When asked if he would re-sign with the Patriots for less money, Newton said he truly wasn’t focused on the contract situation.

“You must understand, that is literally the last of my worries and if we had to put an analogy in it, that is under so much work at my desk that I am not really too much focused on it,” Newton said. “I do admire and love the culture of the Patriots. It’s been a place for me that has been therapeutic. This is a place that has been rather challenging for my growth and is making me better. And also, it has been a place that has given me everything for my needs at this particular time in my life.

“Through it all, I am going to let the cards shuffle the way they shuffle and do the things that I can control.”

Rex Ryan roasts Cam Newton, Patriots offense: 'It looks like a disaster' .
New England's offense certainly has seen better days. Against the Broncos, Newton completed 17-of-25 passes for 157 yards and two interceptions. He added 76 yards and one touchdown rushing.  So far this season, the Patriots offense ranks 14th in the NFL and 25th in passing. They shouldn't necessarily be dubbed as a disaster just yet, though ... especially after practicing just once last week in preparation for the Broncos due to a COVID-19 outbreak. However, if the poor play continues, the Patriots may be in trouble for the first time in two decades.
