2020 NHL draft: Time, TV, first-round order and tidbits from two-day event Much of this year's NHL entry draft will be different, including that it will be all-virtual event because of the coronavirus pandemic.Instead of having first-round draft picks walking across the stage in Montreal and put on their jerseys on a Friday night in late June, the event will be all-virtual with commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly working out of Secaucus, New Jersey. It will be held in the middle of the week for the first time since 1994.

Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports that the deal also includes a 10-team no-trade clause. Dadonov will earn $3.5M in 2020-21, $5.0M in 2021-22 and $6.5M in 2022-23.

The Senators are having quite the offseason, starting with the 2020 Entry Draft where they selected twice in the first five picks and six times in the first two rounds. The team then solidified the goaltending position by acquiring and extending Matt Murray, while also bringing in some physicality with the trade additions of Josh Brown, Erik Gudbranson and Austin Watson.

While those additions may have seemed like a way to protect the young core, this move signifies that the front office believes the Sens may be ready to compete sooner than expected. Dadonov, 31, is one of the better offensive players in the league and has recorded at least 25 goals in each of the three seasons since returning from the KHL. He’ll immediately become one of the team’s most dangerous options on the power play and can help lengthen out a lineup that was previously led by a bunch of very young players.

Dadonov scored his first NHL goal on 15 December 2010 against Cam Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes.[2] In January 2011 On 7 July 2012, Dadonov left the Hurricanes and North America to return to the KHL with Donbass. In December 2013 he signed a three - year extension with the club

As with any signing the Senators make, though, it is important to note how back-loaded the deal is. They have a history of moving players out before they get too expensive, and with nearly half of the deal’s salary due in the final season that could still be the case here. Still, the team has obviously decided that its competitive window is opening quickly and needed some more scoring punch.

With Dadonov off the board, former teammate (and former Senator) Mike Hoffman is now alone as the top available option. While mid-level players like Mikael Granlund and Erik Haula are also still unsigned, Hoffman is the only real “splash” player still looking for a home.

Report: Senators, Alex Galchenyuk agree to one-year, $1.05M deal .
There is incredible skill in Galchenyuk’s hands, and though he has been a relative disappointment given his draft position, he still does have 135 goals and 320 points in 549 regular-season games. That’s good enough for second among all players drafted in 2012, behind only Nashville’s Filip Forsberg (166 goals, 353 points). In Ottawa, he can slide into a lineup that suddenly looks a lot deeper than expected. The Senators not only added Galchenyuk, but also Evgenii Dadonov and Austin Watson to a forward group that will also likely include third-overall pick Tim Stuetzle.
