Dabo Swinney: I'm not thinking about Texans job

Dabo Swinney: I'm not thinking about Texans job Swinney was connected to the Texans job immediately following word of O’Brien’s firing. The speculation made — and still makes — lots of sense. The Tigers head coach isn’t just close with Watson, he also has a good relationship with executive Jack Easterby, who is currently in charge of operations.Swinney famously compared Watson to Michael Jordan in the buildup to the 2017 draft, where the Texans landed him at No. 12 overall. Even with a football MJ under center, the Texans started 0-4, leading to O’Brien’s surprise dismissal.

New Orleans was 30-42 last season, including 2-6 in the NBA restart, which doomed its chances of making the playoffs. The Pelicans dismissed coach Alvin Gentry following their departure from the Orlando bubble.

Van Gundy is 523-384 in 12 seasons with Miami, Orlando and Detroit. His most successful run was with the Magic when they made the playoffs five consecutive seasons, including a Finals appearance in 2009.

The Pistons fired Van Gundy following the 2017-18 season, and he spent the last two seasons working in television while active in social and racial justice issues in the community and on Twitter.

“I don’t care who you are, what job you are in, when you’ve worked at something for a long time and tried to become good at it and everything else, it’s not easy to walk away – particularly when it’s not on your own terms,” Van Gundy told the Detroit Free Press two years ago. “Kim’s (his wife) major thing is that I’m not happy (during seasons). You don’t need to do it, so why are you going to do something that doesn’t make you happy.

“If I’m not happy, it’s hard for the people around me to be happy.”

Van Gundy, 61, knew he would feel the lure of coaching at least one more time after his tenure in Detroit ended with three losing seasons and just one playoff appearance from 2014-2018.

“You want to write a different story,” he told the Free Press. “That’s the pull, but I’m not sitting here today wishing I was in the office today or I was on the court today, but it’s just coaching in general. There’s still a tug, but we’ll see what happens.”

The Pelicans have offseason moves to make, and executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin has a long-term plan to make the Pelicans one of the best teams in the Western Conference.

Drew Brees, Alvin Kamara help New Orleans Saints outlast Chicago Bears with field goal in overtime .
Alvin Kamara almost made the Saints forget they were without Michael Thomas (hamstring), Marquez Gallaway (ankle) and Emmanuel Sanders (COVID-19). He caught nine passes for 96 yards and ran for another 67 – including a 20-yard burst in overtime that put the Saints at the Bears 11, all but sealing the game. Jared Cook and Taysom Hill both caught touchdown passes from Drew Brees, and Lutz made four of five field goal attempts – no easy feat when winds were gusting and swirling at Soldier Field. It was the second loss in a row for the Bears, who had been perfect at home in November under coach Matt Nagy.
