“If everything is true, it’s kind of obvious,” said Carr, who starred at Wichita State from 1979-83 and spent more than 15 seasons in the NBA. “He should be done. You can’t put your hands on people, and you can’t make racist comments.”

“That doesn’t sound like the Gregg Marshall that I’d been around,” Carr said. “But if he’s doing that, it’s not right. We need to do something.”

Carr was on some of Wichita State’s most successful teams. He was on the 1981 squad that went to the Elite Eight and also led the 1982 and ’83 teams, which also included Xavier McDaniel and Cliff Levingston, in scoring.

“Obviously, I won’t stand for anything racist,” Carr added regarding allegations Marshall made racist comments to players. “I fought my whole life in Kansas. It’s not something you do.”

Carr, who lives in San Antonio now, said he hasn’t spoken to Marshall since the stories were released, but said the pair has a good relationship and that Marshall has brought him in several times to speak to his team over the years.

With the internal investigation nearing an end, Carr isn’t sure what will happen with Marshall.

“It’s a tough one,” he said. “In Wichita, Kansas, anything can happen – especially with the political situation the way it is.”
