Bayer Leverkusen failed in the last few seconds in its negotiations with Werder Bremen about a change from Milot Rashica. Sports director Rudi Völler announces a new attempt for the winter in a kicker interview.

"We wanted to borrow it, Werder wanted to sell it for a long time," says Völler in an interview. However, and that became the problem for both sides: "An option only emerged on the last day. Implementation became difficult, we ultimately did not find an agreement. Then it just won't work." The sticking point was the issue of the purchase option, on which the negotiations failed.

It was initially pulled out of a pack of Panini America's 2013-14 high-end "National Treasures" line.  Gallery: Check out these NBA bobbleheads and figures (SMG) The 1-of-1 card was graded a MINT 9 by Beckett Grading Service, making it even more desirable for collectors. But Völler takes note of the broken deal calmly: "A completely normal process, no accusations. Even if there were three disappointed parties in the end." Rashica, who recently suffered from knee problems, was given a week off from Werder because the time was not easy for him.

But the door for a change is not closed - on the contrary. "In two and a half months the clubs can add more when the next transfer window opens," says Völler. "It has not been written off, but there is no automatism that it will come in January." In any case, there should now be enough time to discuss the general conditions of the transfer.

In an interview with kicker (Thursday edition), Völler also describes whether Bayer Leverkusen's bumpy start to the season worries him. The 60-year-old also comments on the discussion about Joachim Löw and the much-criticized international matches.

Kohfeldt's mind game with Rashica .
On Sunday against Hoffenheim (1: 1) an emergency line-up was already on for Werder defensively: Ludwig Augustinsson (thigh injury) and Felix Agu (COVID-19) were missing both regular left-backs. On Saturday in Frankfurt it will be tight for coach Florian Kohfeldt when choosing his offensive forces. © imago images Milot Rashica is an alternative as a substitute for a filling jug.
