(Bloomberg) - Employees in Europe are becoming less and less interested in working from home after the pandemic, as they are fed up with prolonged absence from their offices. This is the result of a study by strategists at Morgan Stanley.

In November, workers in the region said they want to work from home an average of two days a week, compared to 2.3 days in October. This is the result of a survey of 12,500 employees in various industries in the UK, Germany, Spain, Italy and France who have been working from home since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

“This month's survey indicates that the demand for future home work has declined compared to previous surveys, possibly in connection with increasing‘ lockdown fatigue ’,” wrote the strategists around Christopher Fremantle in a note.

Morgan Stanley's survey was conducted during the second major lockdown wave in Europe aimed at stopping the spread of the virus. The data also provides clues as to whether the Covid-19 crisis means a long-lasting shift towards home work or whether employees want to return to the office most of the time as soon as it is safe to do so.

In the future, according to the survey, 60% of European office workers expect their employers to allow them to work from home at least a few days a week. However, 40% assume that they will be able to work from home less than once a week.
