Indiana responds to horrid non-conference scheduling with savvy RPI incentives for Archie Miller

Indiana responds to horrid non-conference scheduling with savvy RPI incentives for Archie Miller Putting together a college basketball schedule is an art. It requires manipulating the terrible RPI system with bad-but-not-terrible opponents and sometimes even playing fringe, non-NCAA teams rather than the worst teams in Division I. Indiana put together an almost incredibly terrible schedule last year—one that both angered fans and hurt the team’s strength of schedule.Somehow, despite playing Kansas, North Carolina, Louisville, and Butler during non-conference season, the Hoosiers’ non-conference strength of schedule ranked 310th nationally, according to KenPom.

It's clear Trump will have more decisions and crises to face in the coming year. To be sure, other global leaders will as well, but the " America First" president has proved to be unpredictable, if nothing else. Here's what we think will happen in 2018

The film awards season comes to a climax with the Oscars on February 26, preceded by November: World leaders will descend on Bonn, Germany, to discuss progress towards tackling global warming at the 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 23) to the UN Convention on Climate Change.

Butch Good, Lane Needs Time

Picking each college football conference's biggest 2017 game

Picking each college football conference's biggest 2017 game Let’s go through FBS, for starters. The conference favorites vs. the defending national champs in a growing rivalry. This and Bama-FSU are the only two scheduled 2017 games between head coaches who've won national titles. Easy choice.

And that’s easily within Sanders’ reach, if we do well in California (which we almost certainly will). Let’s look at what happens if he takes 70% (just like he did last time we went to the West/Left Coast) Voter Registration Is Voter Suppression: Low Turnout by Design in the USA .

Both of these scenarios are eminently possible; what actually happens will probably be somewhere in the middle. The strategic Mediterranean island, home of Europe’s last partitioned capital, is facing what seasoned Cyprus watchers are calling a historic window of opportunity.

Conference USA might be loaded with great offenses, excellent storylines, and a slew of fun things to talk about, but all anyone on a national scale will care about is what Butch Davis and Lane Kiffin do in their first seasons.

While FIU might be just renting Kiffin - as he rehabilitates his image and career - he's a whale of a coach who doesn't get quite enough credit for being good at his job.

However, this Golden Panthers will need a year to get things in place before being a major factor, it should be a factor with a more dangerous offense and a defense that still needs time after a disastrous second half of the year.

Davis, though, might be able to take Florida Atlantic to a bowl game in his first season.

The Owl defense will certainly be stronger, and the schedule is a wee bit better than FIU's. It'll take a few upsets to get there, but Davis might just be able to do it.

Marcus Johansson caught off guard by trade to Devils

Marcus Johansson caught off guard by trade to Devils After winning Presidents' Trophy and losing in the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs two years in a row, Marcus Johansson knew the Washington Capitals were going to make changes. And it'll take a home win over the Golden Panthers.

The East Could Be A Beast

… if Marshall becomes Marshall again.

Yeah, the coaching will be stronger at FIU and Florida Atlantic, but they'll have a rough time in a loaded division that should produce five bowl teams.

Old Dominion is coming off a terrific ten-win season and should be in the hunt for the East title with WKU at home, but the Hilltoppers should still be fantastic even with a new head coach - getting back QB Mike White should help.

Middle Tennessee has been slightly underwhelming considering the offensive talent, but if QB Brent Stockstill can stay in one piece, look out. The Blue Raiders will be deep in the hunt for the division title with a schedule against eight teams that didn't go bowling.

And then there's Marshall. Will it be the 2015 Marshall, or the 2016 version? Expect somewhere in between with at least seven wins and a bowl trip.

Conference USA changing its conference scheduling method in effort to land more teams in NCAA Tournament. “Then what happens is if you’re in the top five, your RPI is not going to be lowered by playing somebody at No. 230 and a chance of getting beaten — especially at their place.

What would a second season look like? It will presumably continue to tell the stories of the students we met in season one and answer any lingering questions we still have, like 13 Reasons Why Season 2 is Officially Happening !

Louisiana Tech Will Take The West Because …

There might not be anyone else.

Southern Miss will be good enough to go bowling, but it has to go to Louisiana Tech and Marshall. The offense will get through the mediocre division, but it won't be quite enough to play for the title.

North Texas won't build on its bowl trip-2016 season, Rice and UTEP will struggle again, and UAB will have major issues in its first year back among the living.

UTSA will keep it rolling, getting to a bowl game for the second year in a row, but it'll be Louisiana Tech's division to take.

There might be a major turnover among the offensive skill spots, but Skip Holtz has enough returning firepower to get back to the championship game.

And, fortunately for the Bulldogs, they're not in the East.

Conference USA Will Go 0-for-Power 5

Western Kentucky pushed Vanderbilt hard last year - and lost.

Louisiana Tech gave Arkansas a nightmare of a time - and lost 21-20. It also lost a shootout to Texas Tech.

UTSA pushed Arizona State hard in a nationally televised 32-28 loss, and FIU gave Indiana a ride in a 34-31 loss.

Conference USA football can celebrate placing a record nine teams in bowl games this season , but there’s little joy for the league when you consider fan interest. No one covers what is happening in our community better than we do.

Conference USA Season Predictions. September 3, 2016 21:10. A beIN SPORTS Roundtable gives predictions on the upcoming Conference USA season . You know what happened ? Jsl - shut up!

At least Southern Miss started out the season shocking Kentucky,

If the league can get one win over a Power Five team, it'll be a success. But expect a slew of close calls.

What is the league in for?

Charlotte at Kansas State (not a chance), FAU at Wisconsin (nope), FIU at Indiana (watch out, Hoosiers), Marshall at NC State (if MU is good, look out), Vanderbilt at Middle Tennessee (it'll be a fight), Middle Tennessee at Syracuse (no) and Minnesota (no), North Carolina at Old Dominion (UNC has to show up), Old Dominion at Virginia Tech (no), WKU at Illinois (maybe, if the Hilltoppers get up early), Mississippi State at Louisiana Tech (possibly the league's best shot), North Texas at Iowa (no), Stanford at Rice (no chance), Rice at Pitt (nope), Kentucky at Southern Miss (50/50 shot), Southern Miss at Tennessee (sneaky good shot late in the year), UAB at Florida (uh oh), UTEP at Oklahoma (double uh-oh), Arizona at UTEP (sneaky decent chance), UTSA at Baylor (good ground games).

The Conference USA Championship Game Will Be …

Middle Tennessee over Louisiana Tech.

Louisiana Tech will get though the West without a problem, but it'll lose to whomever emerges from the East.

The Blue Raiders have been close to being great. The offense rolled up 516 points last year, and it should do it again if Stockstill is Stockstill. However, the defense has to be far, far better than it was over the second half of last year.

SEC East, division champ Gators take stage at media days

SEC East, division champ Gators take stage at media days The Southeastern Conference's Eastern Division will take center stage on Tuesday at the league's annual media gathering. Florida, Georgia, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State are the four teams making the trek to SEC media days. The Gators are led by coach Jim McElwain, who has pushed the program to two Eastern Division titles in his first two seasons.Florida appears to have a decent shot to make it three straight. The Gators return nine offensive starters, including Jordan Scarlett, who ran for 907 yards and six touchdowns last season.Georgia enters its second season under coach Kirby Smart.

Mark D. Smith- USA TODAY Sports. Call me crazy. But the Western Conference Playoff teams will look identical to last year's. Here is how they will pan out.

Conference USA is changing the way it schedules its basketball season to match top teams in the final weeks, hoping to improve their RPI and make being more than a one-bid league for the NCAA tournament not such a stretch.

Where will everyone end up? For all of the Conference USA Bowl Projections?
