NBA awards odds: LaMelo Ball is a star and he's crushing the rookie of the year race

NBA awards odds: LaMelo Ball is a star and he's crushing the rookie of the year race The Minnesota Timberwolves probably have some regrets. Ball has been fantastic for the Charlotte Hornets, who took him with the third overall pick. Anthony Edwards and James Wiseman, the first two picks of the draft, have had their moments but they have not been as impactful as Ball. If you track the betting market to project who is favored to win the major awards, you can have only one takeaway: The NBA rookie of the year race is over. Ball is going to win, barring a crazy turn of events. LaMelo Ball the clear ROY favorite Ball is an overwhelming -400 to win NBA rookie of the year at BetMGM. Things can change. Ball could get injured.

It wasn’t long ago when the consensus public opinion was that the 2020 NBA draft lacked any real star power.

Executives around the league were reportedly concerned about LaMelo Ball, specifically. Some had questions about whether or not he had a broken jump shot. Others were worried that he was tanking interviews during the pre-draft process.

Flash forward, however, and Ball is arguably enjoying one of the best first seasons in NBA history thus far and is the bonafide leader of our Rookie of the Year rankings. That just goes to show you how much the perception of a player can change in a short amount of time.

Complete NBA All-Star starter voting, from LeBron James to Nate Hinton

Complete NBA All-Star starter voting, from LeBron James to Nate Hinton LeBron James led the NBA in All-Star starter voting by fans (5,922,554), fellow players (214) and media (100). But despite winning the overall fan vote for the fifth straight year, something he previously said drove him him to compete hard in All-Star games, LeBron is not enthused about going to Atlanta for this year’s event. Nate Hinton received no player or media All-Star votes and just 238 fan votes, the fewest in the NBA. But he’s not far removed from just being happy to hear his name called on draft night. Not as an actual selection. But by the Mavericks, who called to sign him as undrafted free agent.

a group of men playing a game of football: 2020-21 stats: 4.4 points (35.9% FG, 31.6% on 3-pointers), 4.6 rebounds in 29.8 minutes per game The Rockets will tell you that Tucker's value goes well beyond statistics. Now 35 years old, his qualities such as leadership, toughness, and work ethic are hard to quantify. Even at 6-foot-5, he's shown a willingness — yet again — to defend traditional centers, while also switching onto guards. He's among the NBA's most versatile defensive players. But at least to some extent, the numbers do matter. Tucker is shooting the lowest clip on 3-pointers of his four seasons in Houston, which makes it easier for opponents to sag off him in halfcourt sets. His limitations as a creator on offense have also become more glaring, now that Houston doesn't have James Harden to draw attention from opposing defenses. With Tucker in the final year of his contract and at an advanced NBA age, and the Rockets seemingly far from title contention, it would be a surprise if Tucker isn't dealt by the March 25 trade deadline. If Tucker finds his way to a team like the Los Angeles Lakers or Brooklyn Nets, his limitations on offense could be much more manageable than they currently are for the short-handed roster in Houston.
