Three days after the resignation of coach Julien Stephan, Stade Rennes has signed Bruno Genesio as his successor. The Breton club announced on Thursday evening.
The Frenchman receives a contract until summer 2023. Genesio was most recently in China with Beijing Guoan and until 2019 coach at Olympique Lyon, for which he also played as a midfield player for ten years during his active time.
Stade Rennes won the French Cup with predecessor Stephan in 2019 and qualified for the Champions League for the first time last season. Most recently, however, Rennes remained six point games without a win, conceded four defeats in the past four competitive games and was thrown out in the third round of the cup, whereupon Stephan drew the consequences.
