In 2014, Giancarlo Stanton signed a 13-year, $325 million contract with the Miami Marlins.

The backloaded contract gave his team the opportunity to acquire more assets immediately. Three years later, they could be looking to trade Stanton for more financial flexibility.

Stanton, 27, will have the ability to opt-out of the second half of his contract and become a free agent. He would be walking away from $218 million in the final seven years.

Multiple teams have expressed interest in acquiring Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton , according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. via Bleacher Report .

It's been a resurgent year for Stanton, who boasts a .277/.362/.573 slash line along with 26 home runs and 59 RBI. The All-Star remains one of the most electrifying hitters in the MLB, but with $295 million remaining on his contract, it will be hard to find a suitor.

A trade for Stanton might have to be a straight salary dump, and finding a team willing to take on his albatross of a contract will be tough. It's even more difficult for the Marlins to come to terms with simply sending away their franchise player, or perhaps having to package another piece with Stanton.

Plenty of teams would love to have Stanton; he's the kind of player you can build a franchise around. Of course Stanton controls his own destiny. The slugger owns a no-trade clause and is capable of remaining in Miami if he so desires.
