And those outlets have been hard at work.

Per Bild (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia), Flick met with Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer “a few months ago” to express concern over his future. During the conversation, it had become extremely clear to Flick that sporting director Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidzic was not going to be leaving the club any time soon. With that, Flick knew he would have to move on.

According to kicker, Flick formally put the wheels in motion for his exit roughly six weeks ago when he contacted his lawyer to get the process started. Prior to the away leg at Lazio, Flick also met with Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Hainer to let them know that he could not work with Salihamidzic.

At that point, the Bayern Munich board realized the severity of the situation, but the board also expected Flick to have relaxed expectations when it came to transfers due to the economic impact from COVID-19 pandemic.

Finally, kicker stated that Flick did not want the situation to devolved into a power struggle — and that Flick never laid down a “him or me” ultimatum. Flick now just wants to leave on his own terms.
