Tuchel makes Chelsea history in away win at West Ham as unbeaten run continues

Tuchel makes Chelsea history in away win at West Ham as unbeaten run continues The German tactician is yet to taste defeat on the road as Blues boss, with none of his predecessors able to match an impressive recordThe Blues made a change in the dugout back in January, with club legend Frank Lampard ushered through the exits as a former Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain boss was appointed in his place.

Chelsea capitalised and had the upper hand throughout the second period, with Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi seeing efforts ruled out for offside after Ziyech' s leveller on 63 minutes, and they leapfrogged Leicester into third place in the Premier League with Alonso ' s last-gasp finish from close range. Chelsea are now six points clear of fifth-placed West Ham in the top-four race, while City - who were aggrieved not to be awarded a late penalty when Sterling was tumbled by Kurt Zouma - could still reclaim the crown this weekend if Manchester United lose at Aston Villa on Sunday, live on Sky Sports.

The Spaniard had a topsy-turvy game which ultimately ended in joy. Alonso scored a clever goal from close range to help secure a 2-1 win for his side. Marcos Alonso came up with the goods in Chelsea ’ s 2-1 win over Man City on Saturday. Starting ahead of Ben Chilwell, the Spaniard paid the good faith with a very late winner for the Blues. Alonso ’s performance have impressed many Chelsea fans – who have all praised his finishing after helping the Blues win so many games – reacting on Reddit. Parth_Thakkar28: “ Best False 3 in the world. Change my mind. I'll wait.”.

We’ve often joked over the years that Marcos Alonso could very well be Chelsea’s best striker if we actually played him as one, and considering that he now has as many Premier League goals to his name in the Tuchel Era as Timo Werner, and just one less than Werner, Olivier Giroud, and Tammy Abraham combined, it once again proves the old adage that a lot of truth is said in jest.

Alonso’s goals also tend to arrive at most crucial times — 10 of his 21 league goals total for Chelsea have come against Spurs (3), Arsenal (3), Leicester (2), and the two Manchesters (1 each) — and that was certainly the case last night as he bundled in the winning goal in stoppage time by way of a deflection off his own standing leg and a helpful boost from Callum Hudson-Odoi as well, who jokingly claimed the goal on Instagram afterwards as well.

Manchester City blew the chance to win the Premier League title by losing 2-1 to Chelsea in dramatic fashion.

Fernando Alonso was delighted to hold off the challenge of Max Verstappen and seal a phenomenal fifth-placed finish at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday. The Spaniard' s McLaren team face a huge season after switching to engine-supplier Renault after terminating their difficult three-year relationship with Honda. Two-time Formula One world champion Alonso was chuffed with his Melbourne finish, but believes there is more to come from the team. He told Sky Sports F1: 'It was more or less expected to be honest. We knew we had a strong race pace and better than Qualifying.

“I think [Callum] kicked my foot. But at the end of the day, it’s the goal that counts whoever scores it and the three points for us are the most important thing.”

Having barely sniffed the pitch in the first-half of the season, especially after falling out with Lampard, Alonso’s been one of several players to get a new lease on life under Tuchel. While he remains a backup to Ben Chilwell, he continues to remind of his usefulness and quality in a wing-back setup even at age 30, and his commitment to the team remains the same as it ever was as well, judging by the emotional reaction to the winner.

Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea, Champions League: Tactical Analysis

Real Madrid 1-1 Chelsea, Champions League: Tactical Analysis Breaking down Chelsea’s midweek draw against the European powerhouseChelsea were dominant in the first half, over-running Madrid in midfield, recovering loose balls and breaking through pressure to create a number of opportunities in the final third.

But Alonso came into it a lot more as Chelsea stepped it up in the second half and scored the winner to put City' s title party on ice. Hakim Ziyech - 6. Largely non-existent and gave the ball away a lot in the first half. The American international was also largely far too quiet in the first half and didn't get himself in the game enough despite a few bursts forward. But like the rest of the attackers, he improved immensely in the second half. Timo Werner - 5. He started the game well and his hold up play looked better .

Do Chelsea need a striker? Timo Werner has been better , as his work rate and incisive runs have opened up teams recently. However, his finishing is truly woeful and that trend continued at the Etihad, though he did manage to contribute in the build-up to another Blues goal, pulling the ball back for Alonso ’s winner in stoppage time. The Blues have been linked with Sergio Aguero, but the Argentine didn’t exactly light it up on Saturday. Chelsea ’ s top scorer in the Premier League this season has six goals – they need a goalscorer if they are going to challenge for the title.

“I’m very happy, especially because it’s been a tough season. I do my best every time I play to put pressure on the manager and try to play more.

“That’s what I want and I think every time I play I’ve done well so that’s what I need to keep doing. With the goal today, it was very emotional and I’m very happy for that.”

Alonso’s been linked with an exit this summer, and if this is to be his last season at the Bridge after half a decade, he just might help us go out on the highest of high notes.

“This was a very important three points for us because we are fighting for a top three spot. It was an important win and a big step to secure the top four position. We still have three games to go and we need to keep thinking game by game, trying to work hard to keep getting results.”

“The team is doing great and we need to keep working hard because the best is still to come.”

Chelsea 2-1 Leicester City, Premier League: Tactical Analysis .
Breaking down Chelsea’s revenge for the FA Cup finalChelsea’s building from the back was met with aggressive and high pressing by Leicester, but the passing by Chelsea was excellent. Mendy found passes beyond Leicester’s front line while under pressure, not only to keep the ball but break their shape, while Chelsea worked to find passes to the front two or the advanced midfielders behind Leicester’s midfield line. Jorginho, as the spare man between Leicester’s frontline and midfielders, would find spaces to collect the ball and draw pressure from one of Leicester’s two deep midfielders.
