Intern must publicly testify on rape claim against lawmaker
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho legislative ethics committee will force a 19-year-old intern who says she was raped by a lawmaker to publicly testify about the encounter on Wednesday, the teen's representatives say. The teen's attorney, Annie Hightower with the Idaho Coalition Against Sexual & Domestic Violence, decried the move by the House Ethics and Policy Committee. “We learned late last night that the committee will compel her testimony via a subpoena,” Hightower said Tuesday. “We believe it should be her choice on whether to relive very traumatic events in a public form.
Former Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Brandon Bair saved a man from a burning train on Thursday in Idaho, according to the East Idaho News.
Bair was driving near St. Anthony, Idaho, on Thursday night when he saw a semi-truck get hit by a train. Instantly, he said, the truck exploded.
“There was an explosion right away, and the train was pushing the truck down the tracks,” he said,. “I got on the phone with 911 and started driving down the median to get to the front of the train when it stopped.”
Idaho moves to ban critical race theory instruction in all public schools, including universities
As some public school districts move toward embracing critical race theory in their curriculums, others -- like in Idaho -- are doing the opposite. © Darin Oswald /Idaho Statesman/AP As HB377 is debated and passed by the Idaho Senate Monday, April 26, students and teachers filled the gallery. Idaho lawmakers have advanced a bill that would prohibit public schools, including public universities, from teaching that "any sex, race, ethnicity, religion, color, or national origin is inherently superior or inferior," which, according to the bill, is often found in "critical race theory.
When he got there, he said he saw conductors getting out of the train. Smoke was everywhere, but he heard a voice coming from inside the truck.
“It was a conscious decision that I’m going in because he needs help right now,” Bair said,. “I ran up to the window and saw dripping hot flames all over inside of the truck. I could see a guy in a seatbelt and was able to reach in and get it off of him. He was talking, and I told him we had to get out of here now … We walked away, and within seconds, the fire on the roof fell down and inside and the whole cab went up in flames. A few minutes later, there were a couple big booms and explosives.”
The man inside the truck, per the report, was 25-year-old Steven Jenson. He was then airlifted to a local hospital, and was “in fair condition” on Friday morning. The crash is being investigated.

The measure is meant to protect the state's livestock. The bill passed 26-7 in the state Senate on April 21 and in a 58-11 vote in the House of Representatives on April 27. A majority of Republicans in both chambers supported the bill, while most Democrats voted against it. The legislation currently awaits Republican Governor Brad Little's decision to approve or veto it. He has not commented on whether he will sign the bill.
Bair, who played at Oregon for four seasons, appeared in 21 games for the Eagles in 2014 and 2015 and recorded 28 total tackles. He also spent time on the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders before he retired in 2016.
“All I can say is this guy was supposed to live. I’m a man of faith, and I’ve learned to listen to your gut and the promptings you get,” Bair said,. “The Lord wanted him alive. Things could have gone different a million different directions, but things worked out on his behalf. That’s my conclusion. Whether it was me or someone else, he was supposed to live.”
