Wheeler has also been testing theprocess but is expected to spend next season on a college campus as a junior.
Last season, Wheeler averaged 14 points, 7.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.7 steals a game. He led the conference in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.68) and ranked fourth nationally in assists per game.
The 5-10 Wheeler shot 39.9% from the field (22.5% from deep), so he’s not someone you want taking as many shots (13 field-goal attempts per game) as he did last season for a Georgia team severely lacking offensive weapons.
Wheeler was more efficient as a freshman when he attempted just 7.0 shots per game, which is much closer to what he’d likely take for a Kentucky team that will have Kellan Grady, Dontaie Allen, TyTy Washington, CJ Fredrick, and possibly Keion Brooks and/or Davion Mintz. Saying this, I don’t see Mintz coming back if Kentucky has Washington, Allen, Fredrick, Grady and Wheeler in the backcourt.
