Sports apparel company Nike supported Naomi Osaka following the tennis star's stunning withdrawal from the French Open, releasing a statement commending her for focusing on her struggles with depression.

"Our thoughts are with Naomi. We support her and recognize her courage in sharing her own mental health experience," Nike said in the statement.

Osaka, the No. 2-ranked women's tennis player in the world, announced her decision to withdraw on Sunday — on the heels of a $15,000 suspension for opting not to speak with the media following her first round match.
