Democratic Wisconsin Gov. Evers launches bid for second term

Starter Scott Effross took the loss after he allowed six runs on four hits over 3.1 innings. Two of those four hits were two-run home runs. Effross walked two and struck out two.
Michael Rucker relieved Effross and gave up a two-run home run and then back-to-back doubles to the first three batters he faced. But he settled down and pitched well after that. Rucker surrendered two runs on five hits over 3.2 innings. He struck out five and walked no one.
The I-Cubs banged out 15 hits tonight, which got them back in a game that they were once trailing 8-1. Catcher Tyler Gushue had Iowa’s only home run of the evening, a two-run home run in the fourth inning. It was Gushue’s third home run this year. He was 2 for 5.

First baseman Tyler Ladendorf hit an RBI double in the fourth inning and an RBI double in the ninth. Ladendorf was 2 for 5.
DH Michael Hermosillo was a perfect 3 for 3 with a double and two walks. Hermosillo batted in one run and scored one himself.
Third baseman Abiatal Avelino went 2 for 5 with a triple in the bottom of the ninth. Avelino scored two runs.
Shortstop Dee Strange-Gordon was 2 for 5 with a double and a stolen base. He also walked once. Strange-Gordon had one run batted in.
Second baseman Andrew Romine was 2 for 4 with two walks. Romine scored one time and had one RBI.
Center fielder Ian Miller went 2 for 5.
It was a rough night for right fielder Trayce Thompson. Not only was Thompson 0 for 5 with five strikeouts and a walk, he struck out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to end the game.

Short’s final line was three runs on three hits over two innings. He struck out five and walked no one, although he did hit one batter.
Shortstop Christopher Morel hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the first inning and then scored on a single by Chase Strumpf. Morel was 1 for 3 with two walks. He scored twice.

The South Bend Cubs were
Brad Deppermann allowed two runs in the top of the first and three more in the second. The game was never in doubt after that. Deppermann’s line was five runs, four earned, on two hits over 1.2 innings. He had control issues as he walked four and hit one batter. Deppermann struck out two.
Justin Bullock and Carlos Luna combined for the no-hitter for Wisconsin. Bullock threw five innings and Luna the final four.
South Bend’s only run came when center fielder Edmond Americaan reached on an error in the sixth inning. Americaan then stole second, stole third and scored on wild pitch by Luna.

In game one, starter DJ Herz had his first bad start of the year, giving up nine runs in just 2.2 innings. In the 11 games he had started in his pro career before today, he’d only allowed four earned runs and just ten total runs.
Control was the issue for Herz as he threw 60 pitches and only 31 were strikes. Herz allowed two hits, he walked three and hit three batters. Herz struck out two.

In game two, stating pitcher Adam Laskey gave up three runs on two hits over three innings. Laskey walked three and struck out four.
The loss went to Gabriel Jaramillo. who walked in a run in the fifth inning. Jaramillo pitched 1.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits and three walks. Jaramillo struck out two.
Third baseman Ryan Reynolds hit a two-run home run in third inning, his second on the year. Reynolds went 2 for 4 and scored twice.
Left fielder Yohendrick Pinango had a pair of doubles in a 3 for 5 game. He scored once and had one run batted in.
Center fielder Ezequiel Pagan continued to play well in game two, going 2 for 4 with a walk. He scored one run and batted home one.
Shortstop Luis Verdugo had a similar game to Trayce Thompson in Iowa. Verdugo was not only 0 for 4 with four strikeouts and a walk, he also struck out with the bases loaded to end the game.
