He missed Thursday's morning skate, but it was hoped hours before the club's confirmation that he'd ultimately be behind the bench. No Avalanche players missed out on the skate because of COVID-19 concerns. According to Nicholas J. Cotsonika of the NHL's website, Bednar did not speak with reporters after learning of the update. However, defenseman Devon Toews said Thursday's practice was "pretty much business as usual" with other coaches leading the session.

"We're thinking that he'll be back tonight, but if not we know what to do," forward Joonas Donskoi told reporters. "We've been talking about things that we have to get better at for a long time, and I think last game was a pretty good game from us, so we're just looking to build and get a win from tonight's game."
