Two school committee members abruptly quit after exchanging a series of racially charged text messages. The Boston Police Department is embroiled in an overtime fraud scandal. Pat Kraft and Boston College are honoring a great one in the naming of the renovated Sports Medicine Center. Barry Gallup has been a part of the program for ages. Now entering his 42nd years as a member of the staff, Barry Gallup has connected the entire BC football family together
Coach Gallup came to BC as a receiver in 1965 and set school records for receptions (87) and receiving yards (1,325). He also played two season of college basketball for then coach Bob Cousy. He eventually went on to become a part-time assistant coach at BC in 1970, moving to full-fledged assistant in three years later. He coached a number of positions and was a heck of a recruiter for the Eagles, and later became the head coach of Northeastern in 1991. After coaching for nine years, Gallup returned to Chestnut Hill to work in football ops. He has served as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Football Operations since 2008.
Boston schools chair resigns over racially charged texts
BOSTON (AP) — The chair of the Boston School Committee resigned Monday amid criticism of racially charged texts she shared with another member of the committee disparaging families of students, city officials announced Tuesday. The texts were sent during a committee meeting last October as the board was considering a proposal to temporarily drop the entrance test requirement to the city’s exam schools. “Best school committee meeting ever. I’m trying not to cry,” school committee Chair Alexandra Oliver-Davila texted to fellow committee member Lorna Rivera, according to the texts obtained by the Boston Globe.
Each spring, Boston College student-athletes, coaches, ands staff participate in the. Just another way to tribute a family that has done so much for the program. Gallup is a pillar of the community and this honor is well deserved.
The suite, scheduled to reopen in August, sits in Yawkey Athletics Center and first came to be in 2004. The renovation includes an increase in treatment tables, rehab space, built-in saltwater therapy pods and a new hydrotherapy room with a hot, cold, and treadmill tub.
