Coronavirus Variants Have Nowhere to Hide

Coronavirus Variants Have Nowhere to Hide Our tests will need frequent touch-ups to make sure that no mutations get past them. For most of the pandemic, that exactness has been a major asset for the hundreds of tests that detect SARS-CoV-2. But the discerning nature of most tests has also opened up a weak point for the coronavirus to exploit. With the virus mutating into new and concerning variants, a few of the tests designed to recognize its original iteration are now getting duped. What was once a singular target has split itself off into many, many bull’s-eyes, each a little different from the next, and we’re having trouble taking aim.

It was reported Wednesday that Phoenix Suns star Chris Paul was placed in the NBA's health and safety protocols. At the time, it was unknown whether or not he tested positive for the coronavirus.

Later in the day, John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7 FM reported that Paul did test positive for COVID-19. The 36-year-old received the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in February, per Gambadoro.

Paul will be sidelined indefinitely, and his status for the Western Conference Finals is unclear. According to The Athletic's Shams Charania, the isolation period for a vaccinated individual could be shorter than an unvaccinated individual.

The Suns await the winner of the Los Angeles Clippers-Utah Jazz series, which is currently tied 2-2. If Paul is unable to compete in the Western Conference Finals, it'll be a huge blow for the Suns, who are back in the conference finals for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign.

Paul is averaging 15.7 points, 8.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game this postseason. His best performance of the playoffs came in Game 4 against the Nuggets when he put up 37 points, three rebounds and seven assists.

Devin Booker trying to get in touch with ‘Suns in 4’ fan

Devin Booker trying to get in touch with ‘Suns in 4’ fan The fan in question got into a fight with two Denver Nuggets fans during Game 3 of Phoenix’s Western Conference semifinals series win over the Nuggets. One of the two Nuggets fans sucker-punched the Suns fan, who proceeded to beat the tar out of the two men (video available here). The fan punctuated the beat down by saying confidently “Suns in 4” to the two men.Now that the video has gone viral and the man’s prediction of a sweep came true, he’s become internet famous. Maybe Booker will invite the fan to attend the Western Conference Finals.
