Stephon Gilmore and the New England Patriots have been on rocky ground for some time now. It looks like that continues through this offseason. Gilmore was not present for minicamp, as he seeks a new contract. “I don’t expect him to be here, and we’ll just focus on the guys who are here,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said during his press conference on Tuesday. He would not say whether or not the star cornerback’s absence was excused. Gilmore , who joined the Patriots in 2017 after being a first-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2012, is a two-time First-Team All-Pro, and four-time Pro Bowler.

Head coach Bill Belichick talked about Stephon Gilmore and his contract situation with the Patriots. Well, he didn’t really say much. Gilmore ’s absence from mandatory minicamp is one of the biggest stories these days. “I don’t expect him to be here, and we’ll just focus on the guys that are here,” Belichick said. Things got really tricky here. Gilmore sure hopes to get a better contract. The Patriots will give him million in 2021, and he probably likes a little more than that. The 30-year-old wants a new deal and Belichick may not be in the mood to give him one.

Stephon Gilmore and the New England Patriots have been on rocky ground for some time now. It looks like that continues through this offseason.

Gilmore was not present for minicamp, as he seeks a new contract. Gilmore, the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, is currently one of the great bargains in football. On the last year of a five-year, $65 million deal, he’s set to make $7 million in base pay this year. He’ll be an unrestricted free agent at season’s end.

“I don’t expect him to be here, and we’ll just focus on the guys who are here,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said during his press conference on Tuesday. He would not say whether or not the star cornerback’s absence was excused.

New England Patriots (4-6) -- I'm pretty sure the only reason the Patriots beat the Ravens last week was the monsoon-like conditions. The Patriots' loss to the Texans this week was further proof that New England stinks.

When the Patriots signed cornerback Stephon Gilmore as a free agent this offseason, the predictions for how the Patriots secondary would play this season were pretty much the exact opposite of how the secondary has played through four games this season. Safety Devin McCourty said after Sunday’s loss to the Panthers that the defensive backs are Gilmore didn’t open the second half in the team’s base defense, something Patriots coach Bill Belichick said was just about rotating players during a Monday conference call. He was then asked whether Gilmore was being used in the best way for his skill set.

Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore shut down Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper on Sunday, and Patriots coach Bill Belichick loved what he saw. In the weekly film breakdown he does for the Patriots’ website, Belichick singled out Gilmore ’s interception as one of the best plays any Patriot made this week. “ Gilmore does a nice job here of getting behind Cooper so he doesn’t get picked by any traffic, and in this case he comes underneath,” Belichick said. “Against a good corner like Steph who’s long and fast and makes a great, great play on the ball, a great catch.” Belichick noted that players were

Gilmore, who joined the Patriots in 2017 after being a first-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in 2012, is a two-time First-Team All-Pro, and four-time Pro Bowler. He was named to the Patriots’ All-Decade team for the 2010s, and won Super Bowl LIII with the franchise.

During his exceptional 2019 season, he recorded 53 total tackles, and picked off a career and NFL-high six passes, scoring two defensive touchdowns. He recovered one fumble, and broke up 20 passes, tying a career high and leading the league that year.

He missed five games last season, testing positive for COVID-19 early in the fall, and suffering a partially torn quad later on in Week 15.

MAQB: Stephon Gilmore's Holdout Will Be Tricky for the Patriots to Resolve

MAQB: Stephon Gilmore's Holdout Will Be Tricky for the Patriots to Resolve After spending a record amount of guaranteed money in free agency, the Patriots are now tasked with getting their best player back. And it won't be cheap. With the last week of the offseason program underway, let’s jump in …

As Phil Perry writes, Bill Belichick was quick to heap praise on Stephon Gilmore in today's media session. If the Patriots are talking to other teams about a trade involving Stephon Gilmore , Bill Belichick isn't going to let us know. Asked in his Wednesday morning Webex call with reporters if he planned to have Gilmore on the roster after next week's trade deadline, he said he "didn't know anything" about the reports stating that the Patriots have had conversations in the past about dealing their No. 1 corner.

On Wednesday, coach Bill Belichick was asked whether there’s any truth to the report that the Patriots “at least entertained offers” for the 2019 NFL defensive player of the year. It’s a strange answer. Is he suggesting that the team entertained trade offers for Gilmore without Belichick knowing about it? The reality is that a sudden knee injury likely derailed any potential trade interest in Gilmore . Some have wondered whether the injury is really an “injury,” with the goal of blocking the team from trading Gilmore .

Stephon Gilmore turns 31 in September, so he may on the back end of his best NFL seasons, but he’s consistently been one of the league’s top cornerbacks. We’ll see if the New England Patriots wind up dealing him, as has been rumored for a while, or if the two sides can work something out with a contract extension.

Bill Belichick Has Blunt Response To Analytics Question .
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has a well-documented history of disdain when it comes to advanced NFL analytics. And during this year’s General Manager Forum on Tuesday, the New England coaching legend perpetuated that reputation. “I’d prefer good players, good fundamentals and good execution,” Belichick said when asked about analytics, per D.
