Most things on broadcast TV not only beat that, but beat it by quite a bit, and that kind of number isn’t usually even amongst the top cable broadcasts. Mark Giordano wearing a uniform: With a cap hit of $6.75 million for the 2021-22 season, Giordano is a beefy contract to take on as a 37-year-old. Yet, the Flames defenseman hits all the right marks if you're a new franchise like Seattle. Giordano still has gas left in the tank if his previous season is anything to go off of, plus he fills the role of an experienced veteran in a room full of younger players. Not only that, the Kraken could very well ship Giordano and his expiring deal off to a contender at the trade deadline should they be wanting for draft picks next season. In total, a no-brainer move for Seattle here.

Next NHL defensemen in line for huge free-agent contracts .
Whether they can sign extensions or need deals now, expect big money for Dahlin, Fox, Hughes, and others. That goes for mid-grade and depth defensemen, who’ve signed one eye-popping free-agent contract after another.
