As the 2020 season rolled along,became less and less interested in speaking with the media. Luckily, the quarterback is back to being the fun-loving Cam we’ve grown used to seeing.
Newton couldn’t help but crack a few jokes when speaking with media members on Friday. One of his jokes in particular went viral.
The Pats quarterback jokingly told media members that they’re “uglier in person” after training camp on Friday. He was, of course, referring to the differences between the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Last year, players met with media members over video calls, rather than in-person. This year, players and media members can interact face-to-face.

It looks like Cam Newton is having fun again. We’re glad to see it.
Newton’s personality is a big reason why he’s had so much success throughout his career. Teammates flock to him. Coaches tend to get along with him. But he faces a whole new task ahead of the upcoming season.
Newton is now a mentor. He’s in charge of helping rookie quarterbackget up to speed. It’s still a competition, of course. Jones will eventually be a franchise quarterback, but not if Newton has anything to say about it.
A rookie-veteran competition can go one of two ways. Sometimes it’s toxic. Other times it’s memorable. So far, Newton and Jones’ relationship is more of the latter.
