NFL practice squad signings: Complete rosters for all 32 NFL teams in 2021

NFL practice squad signings: Complete rosters for all 32 NFL teams in 2021 Sporting News is tracking the latest practice squad signings that NFL teams are making after roster cuts. That's part of why the league is once again allowing teams to sign 16 players to practice squad rosters. Originally, the NFL and NFLPA's Collective Bargaining Agreeement outlined a 12-man practice squad in 2021 with an increase to a 14-man unit in 2022. However, because of the pandemic, both parties agreed to expanded units last year; that policy will stay in effect for 2021.

It probably felt like a long-time coming for J.J. Watt to get his first training camp practice in ahead of the 2021 regular season. And nobody was more excited for it than Watt himself.

The three-time Defensive Player of the Year took the practice field Monday in his first camp appearance since signing with the Arizona Cardinals -- and since being put on the Physically Unable To Perform list in July with a hamstring injury. Not surprisingly, Watt's excitement to return to the gridiron translated into him taking part in way more than originally planned.

Raiders contacted Bears about trade for edge rusher Khalil Mack?

Raiders contacted Bears about trade for edge rusher Khalil Mack? The Raiders drafted Mack fifth overall in 2014 and traded him to Chicago before the 2018 season in exchange for a package including two first-round picks. Mack then signed a six-year, $141 million extension with the Bears shortly after the trade.Las Vegas was in desperate need of a pass rusher this offseason. The Raiders recorded just 21 sacks last season. Mack alone had nine sacks and three forced fumbles in 2020. After failing to land Mack, the Raiders signed defensive end Yannick Ngakoue to a two-year deal. Ngakoue spent the 2020 season split between the Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Ravens.

"That's part of the challenge, is easing yourself back in and trusting it," Watt said via ESPN. "Somebody just asked how I felt and I was like, 'Like a dog chasing a tennis ball.' You're just like, wherever it bounces you want to get it and you're so excited to be out there and, like, it doesn't matter if you're supposed to go where bounces, you're just going for it, and that's what it felt like today."

Of course, Watt still has a lot of ground to cover to get ready for Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans. Still, the veteran is confident following his first day back to work.

"I've been in a lot of football games, I've been in a lot of situations, so I know what my body needs to be ready for Game 1," Watt said. "I don't think the preseason games are one of those things that are absolutely necessary for me."

Watt Watt has been a hold-in during training camp and the preseason, meaning he reported to the Steelers but is not taking part in any team drills during practice. It seemed like Watt and the Steelers were close to a record-breaking contract as of fairly recently, but NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala said Tuesday that the contract talks have cooled.

Watt spent all 10 previous seasons in the league playing for the Houston Texans, tallying 101.0 sacks, 409 tackles, and 25 forced fumbles.
