Will Houston really pay Deshaun Watson $10 million to not play all season?

Will Houston really pay Deshaun Watson $10 million to not play all season? The NFL hasn't put him on the commissioner's exempt list or even talked to him about the multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. Here's the issue for the Houston Texans: Some decision will have to be made with Watson. The Texans seem hesitant on what to do, probably because there's no good answer. Aaron Wilson of Sportstalk 790 in Houston, who covered the team for the Houston Chronicle before he was reportedly fired for comments on the Watson case, reported that the Texans are "prepared to have Deshaun Watson on the 53-man roster and inactive every week.

The Houston Texans have set a hefty asking price for Deshaun Watson. They could've received a lot for the veteran quarterback.

According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports (h/t Pro Football Talk), the Texans were offered three first-round picks and three third-round picks for Watson before the draft. Houston declined.

Glazer added that four teams were interested in Watson and that most of them have dropped out. The Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles and Carolina Panthers had been linked to the Clemson product throughout the offseason.

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores publicly backs Tua Tagovailoa as 'our' quarterback

Dolphins head coach Brian Flores publicly backs Tua Tagovailoa as 'our' quarterback Watson remains with the Texans but wants to be traded and is expected to be a healthy scratch each week of the season he's on Houston's roster.According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Flores declined to discuss Darlington’s story when speaking with reporters Wednesday but left little doubt about who is QB1 in his mind as he prepares for the regular-season opener at the New England Patriots on Sept. 12.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Texans asked teams for a six-piece package of players and draft picks to trade their franchise quarterback during the offseason. No team is interested in meeting Houston's asking price for Watson unless conditions are attached to draft picks included in a deal due to the quarterback's legal issues, Schefter added.

Watson requested a trade out of Houston following the 2021 campaign. However, he's currently facing 22 civil lawsuits from women alleging sexual assault and inappropriate behavior, so it has been challenging to find a trade partner with the situation not yet settled.

The Texans are starting Tyrod Taylor at quarterback this year as the franchise is reportedly keeping Watson away from the rest of the team. Regardless, Watson will make $10.5 million in 2021 whether he plays or not.

Report: 'More unlikely' Deshaun Watson criminal inquiry will finish before NFL trade deadline .
It was reported last month that the case against Houston Texans star quarterback Deshaun Watson, who is facing 22 lawsuits alleging acts of sexual assault and misconduct and 10 criminal complaints, went before a grand jury. Watson requested a trade before those accusations were known, and it's been thought he and his camp would understand if he is going to be formally charged before the Nov. 2 NFL trade deadline. © Quinn Harris-USA TODAY Sports Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.
